Drivers on the Piccadilly Line will strike again next month in a long-running dispute over industrial relations, Tube union RMT has confirmed.

Union members will stage a walkout from midday on 7 November until midday on 8 November.

The 24-hour walkout will be the latest phase of action after the line was shut twice at the end of September.

RMT General Secretary Mick Cash said: "RMT is frustrated with the slow and tortuous process when it comes to getting the Piccadilly Line management to address the full raft of issues at the heart of this dispute.

“There has been ample opportunity for the management side to listen to the deep-seated concerns of their staff and take the action required to address them. The ball is firmly in their court.”

Transport for London - which previously said it was "hugely disappointed" by the September strikes - has been contacted for comment.

He won his first competitive marathon in Chicago earlier this month.

But Sir Mo Farah was back to school on Monday to encourage children in east London to get active.

Sir Mo was snapped this morning doing his famous Mobot pose with Year 6 pupils from Cubitt Town Junior School, Tower Hamlets.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan was also there to join in the fun.

The pair visited the school alongside Elaine Wyllie, founder of The Daily Mile.

The Daily Mile is a social physical activity, with children running or jogging in the fresh air with friends. It aims to make children fitter, healthier and better and concentrating in class.

More than 350 schools in London have signed up to the scheme so far, which equates to about 117,000 pupils.

John Biggs, Mayor of Tower Hamlets said: “Tower Hamlets was an Olympic borough in 2012 and those aspirational Games are the heritage of our children.

“I am proud we have more schools signed up to the Daily Mile than any other borough in London, but we will continue to work with schools, businesses and other partners to develop opportunities that contribute to the ongoing health and wellbeing of our residents.”

  6. Sophie Cornish: ‘Women, don’t be so hard on yourselves!’published at 14:09 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

When Sophie Cornish and her business partner Holly Tucker started notonthehighstreet.com from their kitchen table in 2006, they didn't expect it to grow into a multi-million pound firm.

"Women tend to be their own worst critics," Sophie, from south-west London, says. "I wish I could say to my younger self, 'Stop beating yourself up. Trust yourself.'”

If only Sophie's younger self could have predicted the company's success – the online marketplace is now worth £165m, has over three million customers and 200 employees.

  10. Call for Oyster extension to Luton and Stansted airportspublished at 13:11 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

    Oyster card

Rail Minister Jo Johnson has been urged by City Hall's Heidi Alexander to back an extension of Oyster and contactless payments to Luton, Stansted and Southend airports.

London's deputy mayor for transport has written to Mr Johnson stating that thousands of football fans who will use the airports to attend Euro 2020 matches at Wembley Stadium should be given the "greater flexibility and convenience" of being able to use Oyster and contactless cards.

Wembley is set to host seven matches during the tournament - including the final.

Tourists arriving at the three airports are currently unable to pay for their onward train travel using the plastic cards, meaning many must queue to buy paper tickets.

Acceptance of Oyster was extended to Gatwick Airport in January 2016, joining Heathrow and London City airports which were already included in the Oyster zones.

Ms Alexander emphasised that Transport for London has "consistently expressed support for expansion of the technology" and called on Mr Johnson to provide an update on progress "for when these crucial extensions will be rolled out".

  11. The puzzle of the people least likely to vote Torypublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 15 October 2018

Black and ethnic minority communities are as diverse in their values and beliefs as the rest of the population. So, why do these voters overwhelmingly support the Labour Party over the Tories?

The Conservative Party faces a serious challenge when it comes to securing the support of non-white voters.

About three-quarters vote Labour, while fewer than one in five votes Conservative, according to the 2017 British Election Study (BES).

Unless the pattern changes, this is a headache for the Tories which could worsen in the long term, as the non-white population increases.

Prof Rosie Campbell from King's College London explores the issue here.
