    Network Rail has been accused of "exploiting" small businesses by raising commercial rents in railway arches ahead of a property sale.

    Figures have shown the average rent for a commercial space in London increased by almost 20% since April 2017.

    The increase came months before Network Rail announced the sale of thousands of railway arches in a £1.46bn deal.

    Network Rail said rent increases were usually due to local market conditions or its own investment.

    A new charity campaign that uses contactless donation points acorss London has raised over £78,000 in the first two weeks since its launch.

    The 53 terminals, run by not-for-profit TAP London,, external which take £3 donations by card were unveiled last month.

    Locations include a West End theatre, a cinema in Mayfair, a coffee kiosk in Canary Wharf and several Waterloo bars.

    Londoners donate more than 2,500 times through new contactless points and GoFundMe page, while nearly 1,500 referrals have been made via the StreetLink service - which connects social workers with rough sleepers.

    Mr Khan said money raised via the scheme - which will install at least 90 terminals around the capital - would be shared among 22 London charities.

    The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “Even one person sleeping rough is one too many, and it’s fantastic to see this year’s campaign get off to such a great start, with Londoners donating through the new TAP London contactless points and online."

    Police are investigating a break-in at Sir Paul McCartney's London home.

    Thieves targeted the former Beatle's house in St John's Wood on the evening of 7 December.

    It is unknown if the musician, 76, or his wife Nancy Shevell, were home at the time of the break-in, which came days before he played a concert in his hometown of Liverpool.

    No arrests have been made and the investigation continues, a Metropolitan Police spokesman said.

    Sir Paul is due to play at London's O2 Arena on Sunday.

    Travellers at some UK airports are barely being offered one US dollar for each of their pounds, following a month of Brexit uncertainty.

    Those exchanging pounds at the UK's biggest airport, Heathrow, are finding as little as $1.05 coming back across the counter.

    Since 16 April the pound has fallen by 11.77% against the US dollar.

    In places, sterling buys less than a euro, with tourists being offered just 92 cents for every pound.

    An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murdering a teenager who was fatally attacked in south-east London.

    Jay Sewell was the victim of the latest violent death in the capital when he was stabbed to death in a fight in Lee, shortly before 22:00 on Tuesday.

    A 16-year-old boy arrested on suspicion of murder on Wednesday remains in custody, while three men, aged 22, 31 and 56, and two women, aged 29 and 53, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder have all now been released under investigation.

    Chelsea say fans who sang an anti-Semitic chant in the Europa League game with MOL Vidi have "shamed the club".

    A vocal minority chanted offensive songs about Tottenham fans early in Thursday's 2-2 draw in Hungary.

    That came days after four fans were suspended for allegedly racially abusing Raheem Sterling.

    "Anti-Semitism and any kind of racial or religious hatred is abhorrent to this club and the overwhelming majority of our fans," a spokesman said.
