    A leading female figure in the technology sector has called for girls to be encouraged to get into tech subjects from a young age.

    Speaking at the launch of London Tech Week, external, the event's managing director Carolyn Dawson said the lack of diversity in the sector could be traced back to children's education.

    “There’s still this perception, even from parents, that science, computing and STEM topics aren’t really for girls. So from such an early age it’s almost discouraged," she said.

    According to a 2018 report, external, only 14.6% of senior UK tech leaders are women and 70.5% of senior executive teams have no BAME members at all.

    Ms Dawson said London Tech Week was committed “not only to lead the way in tech innovation, but to tackle head-on the issue of diversity in the industry”.

    The event runs from 10-14 June.

    Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon in his side's 2-2 draw with Burnley on Monday and will miss the rest of the season.

    The 18-year-old winger was taken off in the 41st minute as Chelsea moved into the top four in the Premier League.

    Hudson-Odoi played 24 times this term and made his England debut in March.

    Six fire engines are tackling a fire in a recycling plant in north-east London.

    About 40 fire fighters are currently at the scene as small part of the building in Ardra Road, Edmonton, remains alight.

    London Fire Brigade was called at 11.27 BST and the fire was under control by 1303.

    Fire crews from Edmonton, Enfield, Tottenham and Islington Stations attended the incident.

    More than a quarter of Tube users surveyed by Transport for London (TfL) believe that they should only have to offer their seat to others if they are sitting in a "priority seat".

    The questionnaire of 1,000 people also found that almost one in four feel awkward offering their seat on public transport.

    The results have been released to mark the beginning of TfL's Priority Seating Week which will see the introduction of new designs for priority seats on the Jubilee Line.

    Mark Evers, TfL's chief customer officer, said the week was "an opportunity to raise awareness of how we can make travelling easier, to remind us all that not all conditions are visible, and to offer our seat to those who may need it more."

    London's top transport boss should consider quitting, a report into Crossrail's delays has recommended.

    The project, to build a new railway underneath central London, was due to open in December 2018 but it might not open until 2020 at the earliest.

    A report by the London Assembly has recommended Transport for London (TfL) commissioner Mike Brown reflect "on whether he is fit to fulfil his role".

    TfL said the project's delay was down to the previous Crossrail management.

    Buckingham Palace is expected to announce on Tuesday that US President Donald Trump will make a state visit to the UK in early June.

    The president was promised the visit by Prime Minister Theresa May after he was elected in 2016 - but no date was set.

    Downing Street did not comment on the matter when contacted by the BBC.

    President Trump and the first lady, Melania, visited the UK in July 2018 for a two-day working visit.
