  6. Palace on the front footpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

    Liverpool 0-0 Crystal Palace

    Phil McNulty

Crystal Palace have nothing to play for other than to give manager Roy Hodgson a decent send-off and they have started in very positive fashion, forcing Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson into some early work and missing that glorious chance through Andros Townsend.

Liverpool have been very tentative, although Mo Salah is an early threat.

Really good atmosphere with 10,000 fans inside Anfield, plenty willing to clear their throats after months of shouting at the telly.

  7. Liverpool fans applaud Hodgsonpublished at 15:20 British Summer Time 23 May 2021

Liverpool v Crystal Palace (16:00 BST)

    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Anfield

Roy Hodgson has just walked along the touchline at Anfield to a sound that will have sounded very strange - applause from Liverpool supporters.

It was barely seven or eight games into his short and unhappy reign at Liverpool that he heard loud chants for the return of Sir Kenny Dalglish, who was overlooked when Hodgson was appointed, as manager.

Hodgson, being a gentleman and set for his final game at Crystal Palace, set that treatment to one side and returned the applause.
