    Phil McNulty
BBC Sport chief football writer at Etihad Stadium

We may be into May but the conditions are like a bleak mid-winter at Etihad Stadium.

The playing surface looks like it has a covering of snow after a prolonged deluge and hailstorm which hit the stadium and temperatures are so low that several City players are warming up in scarves, bobble hats and tracksuit bottoms. Lots of pavements around the ground were flooded before kick-off.

    More like December than May.

  17. What's behind the fans' fury at Manchester United?published at 12:51 British Summer Time 3 May 2021

On Sunday, the BBC's John Murray should have been commentating on a football match between two Premier League greats: Manchester United versus Liverpool.

But in the end, the match was called off before a ball was even kicked, after United supporters stormed Old Trafford to protest against the club's owners - the US-based Glazer family. In the chaos, two police officers were injured, coloured smoke from flares rose into the air, and fans clambered onto the goalposts.

So what's behind the fury - and why do some Manchester United fans hate the Glazers so much?

John Murray gave us his impression on Sunday's events, and some background to the anger which he says stems right back to the Glazers' takeover of the club in 2005.

He says: "It was a leveraged takeover, which means that it was based on borrowing. And in the most recent accounts, the club's current debt still stands at over £450 million. But as well as that, it is the remote nature of the relationship, the perceived remote nature, the perceived lack of investment... what the Manchester United supporters want is a say in the running of the club."
