Cheshire Police "can't stress enough the importance of staying away" from Northwich town centre, a senior officer has said.
The town has been flooded by the River Weaver, which has burst its banks.
Supt Simon Parsonage said the Cheshire force "strongly advise that you avoid the area", adding: We can’t stress enough the importance of staying away. Those trying to access the town centre are finding themselves stuck in the one way system and unable to turn round. So please avoid the area.

Drone footage has captured the flooding along the River Mersey, showing the waters over Fletcher Moss park, St James Church, Withington golf club and Northenden.
The Environment Agency has said it was working with the local council and United Utilities to get flood waters in Northwich "back into the river".
The Cheshire town lies at the confluence of the rivers Weaver and Dane.
A spokeswoman said the issue was now one of "surface water", which it was working to pump back into the waterway.

A second retirement home in Northwich is to be evacuated after serious flooding in the town, the owners have confirmed.
Residents at Marbury Court will be transported by emergency services to a hotel.

Scores of homes near Sankey Brook have also been flooded.

The latest data from the river stations around Northwich shows the volume of water flowing through the town is not just coming from the River Weaver.
Figures from the measuring station at nearby Rudheath, external show the River Dane, which flows into the Weaver in Northwich, is also running at the highest level ever recorded.
It is currently flowing at about 4.2m, significantly higher than the 2.4m limit at which it might expect to cause flooding.

Boris Johnson said about 10,000 homes in the Didsbury area had been "protected just as a result of what they have been doing overnight".
He added that there would be "more to come" as the forecast was for more rain next week, so it was "vital that people who are in potentially affected areas follow the advice and get the Environment Agency flood alerts where they can".

The gardens are at the National Trust's Dunham Massey, which lie close to the River Bollin, have been closed due to flooding.
A spokesman for the charity, which runs the Georgian manor and estate near Altrincham, said the gardens had been "closed as a precaution".
He said the house was "okay" and the rainfall had affected "the southern end of the estate".
"Everything is running normally," he added.

People in Northwich have been telling me they have never seen the River Weaver at its current level before.
Government data shows the river is well over the 1.5m level it needs to be at to flood.
The latest figures suggest it is running at about 3.45m, about 60cm higher than the previous highest recorded level.

All rail services between Manchester Victoria and Huddersfield have been cancelled due to a landslip caused by the wintry weather.
Network Rail said staff were working to resolve the issue.
