It's been a very busy day in the city, with the Great Manchester Run only finishing a few hours before City's parade.

And among the hardest working today have been Greater Manchester Police's mounted units.

Such a big day deserves a big response, but sadly, we cannot confirm if Trooper, the force's largest ever equine recruit, is part of the parade.

The weather is certainly not dampening spirits with flags, fists and an inflatable Jack Grealish doll raised high in celebrations.

Only a few hours earlier, about 25,000 people pounded the streets for the Great Manchester Run so an impressive turnaround by those working on both events.

It’s wet, but it was absolutely pouring for their victory parade last year as well.

Thanks to yesterday's FA Cup final defeat, I don’t think it will be as euphoric as it was last season, when they won the treble, but the fans are here to celebrate that four-in-a-row which was such a historic achievement for Manchester City.

There are so many Phil Foden flags and scarves about – he's a local favourite and the Stockport-born player's goals and assists were a huge part of getting City across the line.

Fans have been awaiting the squad's appearance outside the National Football Museum, where they will board the buses before travelling past through Cathedral Gardens and on to Deansgate.

Manchester City Council has closed dozens of roads and parking bays for the parade and most will remain closed until at least 23:00 BST.

The authority said fans planning to attend the parade should "use public transport where possible", travel light and "not to bring drinks in glass bottles with them".

Thousands of fans are expected to line the streets for the parade, which will begin at the National Football Museum at about 19:30 BST.

The open-top buses carrying Pep Guardiola, his squad and staff will then pass through Cathedral Gardens and Exchange Square, before travelling down Deansgate to a finish outside the Hilton Hotel at about 21:00.

The club says there will be "large screens and stage shows with a mix of interviews, musical performances and exciting activities" at the start and the end of the route and the parade’s presenters, Natalie Pike and FG, will host "directly from the buses".

The parade is Manchester City's fourth in as many years through the streets of Manchester.

Last year, the team celebrated a treble of trophies, after they won not just the league, but also the FA Cup and Champions League.

This time around, they have had to make do with only one domestic trophy, after they lost the FA Cup final to city rivals Manchester United on Saturday, but they will still be celebrating a treble of sorts.

Back in August 2023, City beat Sevilla on penalties to take the Uefa Super Cup, while in the following December, they travelled to Saudi Arabia to compete in the Fifa Club World Cup.

Pep Guardiola's men took that title without letting in a goal, putting three goals past Japan's Urawa Red Diamonds in the semi-final before going one better and beating Brazil's Fluminense 4-0 in the final.

Manchester City's fans have begun turning the streets of Manchester city centre blue for the parade - and have not been put off by the almost inevitable arrival of rain.
