A grey seal which was stranded on a West Kirby beach on Thursday has died.
The 100kg mammal is thought to have been stranded on Hilbre Island beach after the recent storms and rough seas.
He was taken to the RSPCA's Stapeley Grange Wildlife Centre in Cheshire, where his health deteriorated and he died a few hours later.
Liverpool John Lennon Airport says services are getting back to normal after a fire scare in the control tower led to the evacuation of the building and suspension of all flying operations.
The alarm came after there was a smell of burning in the tower.

Test drilling will not take place in a field near Chester where anti-fracking protesters camped for 20 months, energy company IGas has said.
Protesters camped in a field on Duttons Lane in Upton, where IGas has planning permission to test drill to see if coalbed methane can be extracted.
Campaigners, who feared drilling could lead to fracking, were evicted by bailiffs and police last month, but now IGas says the results of a seismic survey do not meet its criteria and it will now return the site to its former state.
