    A proposed Shakespearean educational theatre in Prescot is to be given financial backing from Knowsley Council.

    Councillors have agreed to a £6m investment to help make the project become reality.

    The plans will be considered at a meeting on 21 April.

    A former soldier from Cheshire - who has had two kidney transplants - is backing a new campaign to mark World Kidney Day to get more people to sign the organ donor register.

    Steve Woodrow, from Widnes, had a stroke in his mid-20s because of kidney failure. 

    His first transplant in 2003 failed but the second has proved more successful and he's now set up his business - motiv8sport.

    Briton Jazza Dickens' super-bantamweight fight against Guillermo Rigondeaux in Liverpool on Saturday has been cancelled because of visa issues

    Rigondeaux, who has been training in Russia, will "not be arriving in the UK" before the fight, according to Frank Warren's Queensberry Promotions.

    A statement added that the 35-year-old Cuban is currently in Miami "for some unexplained reason".

    Merseyside's Police and Crime Commissioner is urging communities affected by the anti-social and illegal use of off-road bikes to speak out anonymously to help police take them off the streets.

    Jane Kennedy has teamed up with Crimestoppers to launch a new campaign with leaflets being delivered to about 15,000 in "hotspot" areas. 

    A giant "ad-van" will also travel around Stockbridge Village, Bootle and Litherland.

    The speech will explore how arts and culture can support economic and social development in the regions. 

  16. Half of GPs in North West will leave or retire in next year, BMA warnspublished at 09:39 Greenwich Mean Time 10 March 2016

    The British Medical Association is warning that almost half of GPs across Merseyside, Cheshire and the rest of the North West plan to retire or leave the profession in the next 12 months. 

    The BMA also says one in 10 practices nationwide believe it is financially unsustainable. 

    It is launching a new initiative aimed at providing practices with support given the crisis gripping the profession.
