    Work on the Northern Distributor Road in Norwich will get underway before Christmas after the Chancellor confirmed the amount of national funding going into the project in his Autumn statement. 

    County council leader George Nobbs says he's "delighted" George Osborne has approved the release of £77.49m over three years towards the construction of the road from the Postwick junction to the A140.

    The whole project, including the Postwick hub is expected to cost around £179m with funding coming from Department of Transport, New Anglia LEP and Norfolk councils.

  4. Gurney Clock goes into storage while new home soughtpublished at 17:56

    It took 12 years to build, but now one of Norfolk's most iconic time pieces is being dismantled and put into storage. 

    The Gurney Clock was gifted to the people of Norwich almost 40 years ago, to celebrate 200 years of the local Gurney's Bank in Norwich - now Barclays. 

    But the site in Castle Mall, where the clock has stood for the last 12 years, is being redeveloped and for now it has no new home.

    Rick Stein and John Hurt are just some of the people who've decorated puppets which will be auctioned tonight to raise money for Norwich Puppet Theatre, external.

    BBC Look East's Stewart White is compering the event - and you can even bid for puppet versions of him and Susie Fowler Watt.

    All of the proceeds will go towards supporting the creation and development of new shows.

  7. Ban 'Black Friday' says Norfolk shop worker's union officialpublished at 17:45

    A union official from Norfolk wants 'Black Friday' sales banned saying they put shop workers at risk. 

    It follows violent scenes in supermarkets last year as people fought over supposed bargains. 

    Stuart Sharman of USDAW says the American tradition where stores slash prices the day after Thanksgiving is an "abomination".

  8. Bus company investigating after bus crashes into a bridgepublished at 17:28

    Bus operator First, external says it's investigating how one of its buses ended up hitting a railway bridge near Acle.

    No-one was hurt, but it led to Greater Anglia, external suspending train services between Norwich and Great Yarmouth for a while.

    The bus was operating as a rail replacement for the 08:45 Great Yarmouth to Norwich service which had been cancelled due to a train fault.

  9. Government Spending Review creates new business zonespublished at 17:18

    The government's Spending Review has revealed funding to create and extend four enterprise zones in Norfolk.

    Norwich Research Park, Nar Ouse Business Park in King's Lynn, as well as Scottow at the old RAF Coltishall base, and Egmere Business Zone, south of Wells next-the-Sea, are the named zones.

    Funding has also been made available to extend the existing Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft zone.

    Norfolk police, external say they have seized a large haul of cannabis plants during a raid in Norwich.

    More than 250 plants were found after officers were tipped off about suspicious behaviour in the North Park Avenue area.

    Police say the raid will "put a large dent in the cannabis industry in Norwich".

  11. Funding for IVF treatment in South Norfolk to ceasepublished at 16:57

    Funding for IVF courses for people living in South Norfolk is to cease from January.

    The South Norfolk Clinical Commissioning Group, external (CCG) made the decision following a public consultation, but said people undergoing treatment making them infertile, for cancer or HIV, would receive IVF help if they met the eligibility criteria.

    The CCG, which will end the year with a deficit of about £6.6m, says it is "facing a significant financial challenge".

  12. Wasp sting causes cardiac arrest and closes A47published at 16:04

    A man who went into cardiac arrest after being stung by a wasp, external while driving on the A47 near Wisbech is in a critical condition.

    He was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in King's Lynn, external by air ambulance. 

    The road, which was closed, has now re-opened.

  13. Norwich South MP told to 'take up yoga' by Commons Speakerpublished at 15:24

    Norwich South Labour MP Clive Lewis has been told to "take up yoga" and that it would do him good by the Speaker of the House of Commons after heckling George Osborne a touch too noisily.

    John Bercow delivered the mild rebuke to Mr Lewis during the Chancellor's Spending Review speech to Parliament today.

    Mr Lewis immediately posted a jokey tweet, external saying: "Anyone know a good yoga course?"

  14. Food outlets in Norwich score highly for hygienepublished at 15:09

    More than 80% of food businesses in Norwich, including restaurants, takeaways and pubs, have achieved a four- or five-star rating from the Food Standards Agency, external for hygiene.

    The snapshot survey of 1,301 establishments in the city was carried out this month.

  16. Public warned of new banking scam in Hemsby and Caisterpublished at 13:56

    Police, externalin the Great Yarmouth area are warning people not to be taken in by a new banking scam involving a phone call from a man claiming to be an officer from Scotland Yard.

    Giving a fake name and number, he asks the victims to to meet him at a cash machine, take out all their money, and hand it over for safe-keeping. 

    No money has been handed over yet and in one of the cases a neighbour intervened to prevent this from taking place. 

  17. Mother 'vindicated' after advertising watchdog says poster was 'menacing'published at 13:28

    Mother-of-three Johannah Martin, from Rackheath, faced a backlash on Facebook when she complained about a poster advertising a Halloween fright night, urging others to do the same.

    But now the Advertising Standards Authority, external has upheld 23 complaints, adding Lenwade Dinosaur Park must never use it again and it was "irresponsibly targeted".
