Norfolk is the top place in the country when it comes to archaeological finds and any cuts to the county's archaeological unit, external, which helps identify treasure, would be a "disaster" according to a former British Musem professor.

Image source, Portable Antiquities SchemeThe county council is having to find budget savings and is currently consulting on whether to cut £170,000 from its archaeology service, including the Portable Antiquities unit which identifies treasure items.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have released two pictures of Prince George's first day attending Westacre Montessori Nursery in Norfolk.

RAF bomb disposal experts say the bombs and mortars unearthed at King's Lynn town hall earlier today were practise ordnance from World War Two.

Building work resumed after disposal experts removed the items.

But as Shaun Peel reports, the red and white paint job has proved problematic.

A large bird that is native to South America has been on the loose in Terrington St Clement, police say.
Officers received calls at around 11:00 to reports of a rhea, described as being similar in size to an ostrich, emerging from a children's playing field on the Station Road junction.
Drivers later reported it being on the A17. Police say despite their investigations, they've not found the bird and can't be sure if it has returned to its home or been recaptured by its owner.

The North Norfolk MP Norman Lamb is calling for a Parliamentary review into what a future NHS will look like.
The announcement comes as a BBC investigation reveals a large number of GP practices in England are closing their doors to new patients because of staff shortages, and as junior doctors prepare to go on strike next week.

Happisburgh Lighthouse, in north Norfolk, built after a huge loss of life during a storm in 1789, is 225 years old this week.
It's now the only independently operated lighthouse in the country.

Police have searched properties on Unthank Road in Norwich and in Dickleburgh this morning after two people were arrested on suspicion of firearms offences.
A man in his 60s and a teenage boy were arrested yesterday, questioned, and then released on bail until March.
An army bomb disposal unit was involved in the search yesterday. Three suspicious packages were found to be harmless.
