    World War One "smoke mortars" are believed to be among a pile of ammunition recovered by builders working on a new heritage lottery building in King's Lynn earlier.

    The area around the town hall was evacuated while bomb disposal experts removed the items, which included bullets. 

    The site will house the Stories of Lynn heritage lottery project which details the history of King's Lynn and is due to open later this year.

    The area around the town hall in King's Lynn has been evacuated after builders found bullets and explosives on site.

    They were working on the last stages of a heritage lottery project when they came across the ammunition.

    Bomb disposal experts and the police are currently at the scene, but a cafe owner whose premises overlooks the site has not been told not to close her shop.

    Bomb disposal experts are on their way to King's Lynn after reports of bullets and shells being found in Granary Court, behind the town hall.

    Norfolk Police, external say the immediate area has been evacuated and people won't be allowed there until the disposal team has arrived.

    The suspected bullets and shells were found on a building site.

    Happisburgh Lighthouse, an icon on the north Norfolk skyline, reaches its 225th anniversary this week as a beacon guiding mariners safe passage in the southern North Sea.

    It's the oldest working lighthouse, external in East Anglia and the only independently operated working lighthouse in the United Kingdom. 

    To celebrate the lighthouse's trust is hoping to raise £25,000 for refurbishments to the 96 step staircase, as well as allowing visitor tours on 15 weekends from Easter onwards.

    A man in his 70s has died after sustaining serious injuries after being hit by a car on the A148 at High Kelling.

    A white Mini Cooper, travelling towards Sheringham, struck a pedestrian on the A148 on Cromer Road, about 17:00 on New Year's Eve. 

    Police are still keen to speak, external to anyone with information.

    Prof Roger Bland has just retired from the British Museum and now lives in Cley. 

    The Norfolk archaeological unit recorded 15,000 finds in 2015. The county council is running a public consultation on whether to cut posts.

    Now is not the right time to invest in additional car parking in the north Norfolk town of Holt, councillors say.

    The authority says 150 spaces are already being created by private developers, so for now it would be a financial risk.

    The council, external says it isn't ruling out investment in the future.

    A BBC investigation suggests that at least 100 GP practices in England have stopped taking on new patients, or have applied to. 

    In the East, nine practices have applied to close their lists, with 20 more generally not accepting new patients.   

    Many surgeries have a shortage of family doctors, but NHS England, external says it's investing £15m to boost numbers.

    Norwich City's Elliott Bennett has joined Championship side Blackburn Rovers on a two-and-a-half year deal.
