Construction of the second and final phase of a solar farm on the Scottow Enterprise Park, external has started.
Image source, Scottow Moor Solar LtdThe work will involve the installation of more than 70,000 solar panels on land adjacent to the runways and aprons of the former RAF Coltishall airbase, with new underground connections to the local UPKN electricity network.
The solar farm is one of the largest in the UK, and on completion will generate income in excess of £10m over 25 years for Norfolk County Council.

Dan Kirk, of British Marine Life Rescue, responded to an emergency call on Friday night, asking for help with a whale that washed ashore at Hunstanton.
It was already stranded when he arrived, and he knew there was not much hope of refloating it.

The A134 Thetford Road in Northwold is closed in both directions because of a serious accident, involving a car and a telegraph pole,.

A gang of ten drug dealers who supplied class A drugs to Norwich have been jailed for up to seven-and-a-half years.
Image source, SBNAThe men, who were mainly of Somali background, supplied crack cocaine and heroin to Norwich, Suffolk and Bedfordshire for seven months, between November 2014 and May last year.
Passing sentence at St Albans Crown Court, Judge Andrew Bright QC said it was a "sophisticated and well-organised operation.... the total quantity of drugs involved were far greater than the 4.58kg seized by the police".

Post-mortem examinations are to begin today on three dead whales which washed up on a Lincolnshire beach, and are believed to be from the same pod as the whale that died at Hunstanton on Friday.
Rob Deaville from the Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme which is carrying out the examination, external, and he says he doesn't believe the whales were following food.

West Norfolk Borough Council is advising visitors to Hunstanton beach not to touch the body of a sperm whale which was washed ashore on Friday night, or to allow their dogs to come into contact with it.
Water sports enthusiasts, including bathers, are warned that the water quality could be affected. Anyone who becomes unwell after using the water is advised to seek medical advice.
The council also advises that shellfish in the area must not be collected for personal consumption.

Each year, scores of unidentified body cases are reported by UK police forces to the National Crime Agency.
Half will be identified and handed over to their loved ones. The longest unsolved case in Norfolk is that of a headless woman, whose body was found at Cockley Cley in August 1974.
Det Insp Andy Guy took on the case in 2007, and says police inquiries are continuing to identify the woman and find her killer. There's more on this on Inside Out, on BBC One in the East of England at 19:30.

Police are appealing for witnesses a collision involving an ambulance and a sports car, which happened just before midday on Saturday.
The ambulance was responding to an emergency call and travelling on the Boundary Road towards Catton when it was involved in a collision with a red MGF sports car travelling towards Cromer.
The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was taken to hospital for observation.

A 25-year-old man who admitted attacking a woman before attempting to rape her has been jailed for a total of 14 years by Norwich Crown Court.
Image source, Norfolk PoliceKieran Hawkshaw attacked his victim by Drayton Road, Norwich, in September 2015, punching her in the head and face and knocking her unconscious. He then attempted to rape her but was disturbed by a passer-by.
Hawkshaw, of Murrells Court, Norwich, has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register indefinitely.

When Chancellor George Osborne extended Right to Buy, Saffron Housing Trust was one of five housing associations, external around the country chosen to take part in the pilot.

Carriageway resurfacing work scheduled to start today along the A149 Norwich Road to Cromer has been postponed for one week, due to an emergency road closure in Overstrand.
During the resurfacing work, the A149 Norwich Road will close to traffic between 09:30 and 16:00 each day, with diversions in place.

Some south Norfolk tenants of Saffron Housing, external will be among the first in the country to get the chance to buy their own homes, external, as part of a Voluntary Right to Buy pilot.
Image source, GoogleTenants will be able to apply for a place on the pilot from this week. Depending on the length of their tenancy, a discount of up to £77,900 could help them buy their own homes.
The extension of the Right to Buy to housing association tenants was announced by Chancellor George Osborne in his Spending Review in November.

A town crier has announced the opening of a charity shop in Thetford.
The Sue Ryder charity's previous shop closed a year ago.
The new one is a store with a difference... everything is priced at £1.
