  3. Norfolk police urge parents to take more interest in their children's online activitypublished at 17:46

    Norfolk police, external say online actions have offline consequences and is warning parents to take an interest in what their children are doing as part of Internet Safety Day 

    The BBC has discovered that four in five underage children have social media accounts.

    Children are  supposed to be 13 before signing up for sites such as Facebook but the poll found the vast majority of 10 to 12-year-olds are lying about their ages to get an account.

    The Norwich South Labour MP, Clive Lewis says the party has a number of options when it comes to a nuclear deterrent.

    His comments come as Labour discusses its position on support for the government to renew the Trident nuclear defence system. 

    Mr Lewis says a land-based Cruise missile system is just one possibility, but that ultimately Labour MPs will have to make a decision based on the views of constituents and their conscience.

  6. King's Lynn Stars search for committed riderpublished at 16:52

    King's Lynn Stars, external are still looking for the final member of their 2016 Elite League speedway line-up just over a month before the season starts. 

    Carl Wilkinson became the sixth member of the Stars team to be confirmed over the weekend. Troy Batchelor, Mads Korneliussen, Rory Schlein, Robert Lambert and Lewis Rose have already signed up.

    But the search for the final piece of the jigsaw has been a frustrating one for team manager Rob Lyon who told us "We're looking for a rider that's committed to British speedway. It's been a hard old slog but we're still working on it." 

  7. Trustees needed to help shape vision of community centrepublished at 16:24

    It's been 18 months since local people took ownership of the Silver Road Community Centre, external, in the north of Norwich, when it was threatened with closure following the withdrawal of a county council grant.

    Manager Julie Brociek-Coulton says the centre is doing well, and at more than 70% full in terms of bookings, providing a venue for activities for all ages. A Silver Memories community cafe for older people is due to open in spring. 

    More trustees are now needed to help shape the future of the centre, formerly known as the Silver Rooms. Anyone interested is invited to an open meeting at the nearby pub, The Cottage, tonight at 19:00. 

  8. Coastguards suspend their search - but have you seen the whale?published at 15:57

    Coastguards searching for a whale spotted in shallow water off Mundesley this morning have been stood down, but we'll continue to stay across the story and bring you any more information as we get it.

  9. Old Hunstanton whale carcass being removedpublished at 15:31

    Staying with whale-related news, the carcass of a sperm whale that beached and died at Old Hunstanton last Thursday is currently being removed.

    The whale died despite the efforts of rescuers, after washing up on a section of beach owned by the Le Strange Estate.

    Specialist contractors were brought in early this morning. The carcass is being cut up in situ on the beach and will be taken to a disposal facility later.

    BBC Look East reporter Felicity Simper has been at Mundesley, where whale-watchers have been lining the clifftop this lunchtime.

  12. Coastguard: 'If whale was there, we'd have found it'published at 14:26

    Coastguards have called off their search for the whale spotted off Mundesley.

    Keith Griffin, of Happisburgh and Mundesley Coastguard, external team, said: "We've carried out an extensive search and are confident that if the whale was in that search area, we'd have found it.

    "Low tide has now passed so with a bit of luck it will return to deeper waters and stand a chance of survival."

    This has already attracted a lot of attention. There are a lot of people here with binoculars scanning the sea, looking for this whale.

    It was reported first at about 10:00 by a member of Mundesley Coastguard team and said to have been thrashing about in the sea here, about 300-400yds off the shore, but since then, it hasn't been seen.

    There's been quite an intensive search going on by about half a dozen teams and the Coastguard has been going up to Overstrand, about another 10 minutes up the coast - it's thought that the tide could be pushing it further north.

    I understand British Divers Marine Life Rescue, external has advised the Humber Coastguard to call off its search for the whale as there have been no sightings for 90 minutes.

    Patrols and coastwatch teams between Sea Palling and West Runton have seen nothing since the original sighting of the whale this morning.

    Crowds though are gathering at Mundesley, half hoping to see it and half hoping it's got back into safe waters.

  19. Norfolk's coast searched following sightings of another whalepublished at 13:04 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2016

    There are half a dozen teams looking out for this whale, which was first spotted off Mundesley at about 09:30. Initial reports said it was thrashing around in the breakers.

    Fixed coast watch teams are scanning the flat-calm sea at Happisburgh, Mundesley and West Runton, while mobile coastguard teams are monitoring at Sea Palling and Trimingham. A third has moved from Walcott to Overstrand.

    Humber Coastguard said early reports suggested the whale appeared to be in trouble.

    The latest sighting of a whale believed to be in distress is about 50 miles away from Old Hunstanton, where a whale died on Thursday after being washed up (pictured).

    It was the sixth sperm whale to die off the British coast this year, and the 30th to die in the North Sea.

    The coastguard, external is asking the public to stay away from the mammal off the Mundesley shoreline if they see it, to avoid causing it any further distress.
