    King's Lynn, external start the 2016 speedway season with a home clash against Polish side Sparta Wroclaw this evening. 

    Great Britain international Scott Nicholls will guest for The Stars as part of an eight-man line-up. The meeting will be held over 16 heats rather than the usual 15.

    World Champion Tai Woffinden will be part of the Wroclaw line-up. The Stars begin their Elite League campaign against Lakeside next Thursday.

    Traders fear that roadworks on the Golden Mile at Great Yarmouth will mar the start of the holiday season at Easter.

    In response to the town's trader's association, which said the repairs could cause gridlock, the county council replied that parts of the road surface near the Britannia Pier were worn out and potentially dangerous. 

    A council spokesman said the work, due to begin on 4 April, should be finished when the holiday season starts on 1 May. "Some disruption is unavoidable, for which we apologise, but leaving the work for later this summer was not an option given the urgent need for the repairs," he said.

    BT Openreach says its engineers will be working over the weekend to reconnect people in Watton.

    Some have been without phone or broadband for 11 days and about 150 lines are now affected. 

    Mike Rix, chairman of the Queen's Hall venue in the town, said it was affecting a lot of people and that he could not authorise bills or wages to be paid without the phone or internet.

  5. Duchess of Cambridge to open new charity shoppublished at 09:17 Greenwich Mean Time 18 March 2016

    The Duchess of Cambridge will be opening a new charity shop later today on behalf of East Anglia's Children's Hospices, external (EACH).

    The charity helps children and young people with life-threatening conditions across Essex, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk.

    Kate, who is royal patron of the charity, will visit the new store in Holt, Norfolk, later today.

    Fourteen horses will compete for the Fakenham Silver Cup at this afternoon's race meeting. 

    It's the feature on a six-race card at the Norfolk track which, as usual, coincides with Gold Cup Day at the Cheltenham Festival.

    The Dan Skelton-trained Boss Des Mottes, due to ridden by Ryan Mahon, was the favourite with most bookies this morning. Races from Cheltenham will be shown on big screens during the meeting at Fakenham.

    Schools in Norfolk have been told they must be transparent about bullying so pupils can feel confident talking about it.

    Rita Adair, a senior educational psychologist for the county council, said schools were encouraged to be open about the issue. 

    She told BBC Radio Norfolk she would be concerned if any school claimed it had no bullying since the problem had been monitored for some years across the county and had not increased or decreased.

    The debate has been opened after The Telegraph, external reported concerns that schools could be under-reporting the problem to ensure they were rated well by Ofsted.
