    Police across the East have increased patrols at airports and train stations following this morning's attacks in Brussels.

    The East Counter Terrorism Intelligence Unit say although there is "no specific intelligence to suggest a similar attack is planned in this country", they are increasing patrols to reassure the public.

    “The threat to the UK from international terrorism remains at severe as it has been since August 2014, meaning an attack is highly likely," Asst Ch Con Jeff Hill said.

    Thieves have stolen about 170 Easter eggs that were being collected for children with cancer.

    CitySprint says the eggs and a laptop were taken during the robbery on Sunday evening.

    As reported in the Eastern Daily Press, external, businesses and individuals have rallied round to help, with more than 600 eggs collected.

    A company collecting Easter eggs for children with cancer has been broken into, with all the eggs stolen.

    Couriers at CitySprint, in Norwich, say the break-in happened on Sunday night and about 170 eggs were taken.

    However, businesses and individuals have been quick to donate eggs - and the company now has about 600.

  5. Supermarket bomb hoax man jailedpublished at 13:00 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2016

    A man has been jailed for five years at Norwich Crown Court for making a bomb hoax towards a Tesco supermarket in Great Yarmouth.

    Officers had been called to the store in Pasteur Road on 6 March last year to reports of a suspicious package inside a trolley near one of the entries.

    Stewart Nightingale, 43, had entered the store with a bag in his hand, before placing it in a trolley and leaving the store.

    Nightingale, of Hazel Grove, Hatfield, Hertfordshire, had pleaded guilty to one count of blackmail and of making a bomb hoax at Norwich Crown Court last month.

    The air ambulance has landed at King's Lynn bus station following a crash that's believed to have involved a cyclist and a car.

    It happened on the A148 Railway Road just after 11:00.

    Emergency services are still at the scene and Railway Road is currently closed.

    Norwich City say Dieumerci Mbokani was at Zaventem Airport in Brussels at the time of this morning's attack.

    In a statement, external, the club said the on-loan striker was "unharmed but shaken".

    The DR Congo international was due to travel to Africa to play against Angola but the club say he is now back home with his family.

    UKIP's MEP for the East, Tim Aker, says he doesn't feel safe in Brussels this morning following explosions across the city.

    At least 13 people have died in attacks at Brussels airport and on the metro system.

    Tim Aker is in the city and told the BBC it was a worrying time: "There's increased security here and we've been told to stay in the parliament building. Everyone's in shock, and worry, and hopes to get out of here as quickly as possible."

    Richard Howitt, the Labour MEP for the East of England, says the first thing he did upon learning of the Brussels explosions was to call home and let his children know he was alright.

    He said he was "a bit shaken personally", having been at Maelbeek metro station about half an hour before an explosion there.

    "The first thing I did when I heard of the airport bomb was ring home, because I wanted to talk with my kids before they went to school so they didn't hear something at school and worry about me," he said.

  11. Coach evacuated due to concern over 'batteries and electronic devices'published at 11:34 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2016

    A passenger on a National Express coach called police after she became concerned about another passenger, seen with batteries and electronic devices in a bag.

    When the National Express coach arrived at Norwich bus station, police escorted passengers off the vehicle.

    Sniffer dogs searched the coach, which had travelled from London.  Norfolk police believe the device was a heart monitor.

    Former Norwich City striker Chris Sutton says Norwich can guarantee Premier League safety with wins over fellow strugglers Newcastle and Sunderland.

    Norwich moved out of the relegation zone with a win at West Brom at the weekend, while Sunderland and Newcastle drew - meaning both now sit in the bottom-three.

    "It's all about these next three games," said Sutton. "If they can beat Newcastle and Sunderland, they'll be safe."

    A quarter of Norfolk's community pharmacies are in danger of closing, the county's Local Pharmaceutical Committee, external (LPC) has warned.

    The government is consulting on cutting £170m from the pharmacy budget, and the LPC says the cuts would hit small independent pharmacies.

    Rebecca Woodruff, from the Local Natural Health Pharmacy chain, says that pharmacists are sometimes "the only people that patients see in a week.... where they can get important advice for minor injuries to major things".

    Two blasts tore through the departures area of Zaventem airport shortly after 08:00 local time. An hour later, an explosion hit Maalbeek metro station, close to the EU institutions. 

    The Belgian government has confirmed casualties but has given no numbers.

  16. Brussels explosions: 'I can hear sirens going', East of England MEP sayspublished at 10:00 Greenwich Mean Time 22 March 2016

    Another of the East of England's Euro MPs has been talking about this morning's explosions in Brussels, in which at least 13 people have been killed and 35 injured.

    Geoffrey Van Orden said he was in the parliament building, near to the scene of an explosion at Maalbeek metro station.

    "I can hear sirens going at the moment. I'm in the parliament and life is going on, but obviously people are very concerned about their travel and things like that," he said.

    An East of England MEP has been talking about two explosions heard at Brussels Airport this morning, which are reported to have killed several people.

    Richard Howitt, who's in the city, said he understood the airport's "walls rocked" and the main building was "pretty badly disfigured". The Belgian government has confirmed there are casualties but has given no numbers yet.

    "There was a pall of smoke rising into the sky and people were running away for their lives," he said.
