  3. Watch: New nature reserve nearing completionpublished at 17:50 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    The Wissey Wetland is one of Norfolk's newest nature reserves, created on 130 hectares (321 acres) of set-aside land, near Downham Market.

    The joint project between the Environment Agency and the Norfolk Wildlife Trust is designed to compensate for any future loss of habitats, and is already home to lapwings, swans and marsh harriers.

    A specialist aviation company based at Norwich Airport has announced an increase in turnover year-on-year.

    SaxonAir moved to its headquarters, external at the airport in 2011. The company says it turned over £13m, an increase of 32% on last year. It is in part down to handling more than 3,000 business and private aircraft movements in the last 12 months.

    The company provides a range of aviation services, including private jet charter, aircraft sales and leasing, and flight support.

    Norfolk wheelchair tennis star Alfie Hewett (pictured, right) has moved up to a career-high eighth in the World Doubles rankings.

    Hewett, from Cantley, near Great Yarmouth, recently reached the final of the South Africa Open with partner Gordon Reid.

    A Norfolk head teacher says he would be devastated if plans to create its own sixth form do not go ahead.

    Neatherd and Northgate High, external Schools share Dereham Sixth Form College, external (seen above), but in February Neatherd announced plans, external to set up its own. Norfolk County Council has issued a notice raising concerns that two smaller sixth forms would not offer the same opportunities to students because of funding and staffing costs.

    Peter Devonish, head of Neatherd, said the school was understandably worried at receiving the notice, as it believed the venture would improve outcomes for students.

    New buses being used by First Eastern Counties are on show in the centre of Norwich today.

    The nine vehicles will run on the new Pink Line between the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Wroxham, via the railway station and city centre.  

    The double-deckers have free wi-fi and boast a 90% reduction in pollution emissions.

    The man who drew up plans for a care home in Norfolk says it's "sickening" that it has never been used.

    Cawston Care Home was built near Aylsham in 2009 but still has not opened. Its first owners went out of business and the current ones say they have had delays in opening it, although intend to in September.

    Les Gray, who designed the home, said there was a real need for care places in the area.

    A mobile post office service begins today, serving the six north Norfolk villages of Wood Norton, Hindolveston, Fulmodestone, Stibbard, Walsingham and Hindringham.

    The postmaster from Guist, Duncan Pearson, is taking on the service.  

  14. City council 'consults all access groups' over road schemespublished at 12:45 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    Norwich City Council's, external head of city development services says the authority tries to take into account the needs of all road users, including those with disabilities, when it comes to designing traffic schemes.

    The authority has come under fire from some visually-impaired people following the removal of a signal crossing on Cleveland Road, but Andy Watt said this was necessary in order to keep traffic moving following changes to Chapelfield North and the Grapes Hill roundabout. 

    Mr Watt said the council was continuing to consult the Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind about ongoing works on the St Stephens Street and Rampart Horse Street schemes, to ensure it got the details right.

  15. New cafe to open to help addictspublished at 12:18 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    A new community cafe and drop-in centre is to open in Norwich, to help people trying to quit drugs and alcohol.

    The Matthew Project charity, external, working with the county council's public health department, has secured £600,000 funding for the facilities. A venue is yet to be decided for the cafe, which is expected to open by the end of the year. 

    It will be staffed by people who are receiving support from the charity, helping to rebuild their confidence and life skills.

  16. Watch: Medieval manuscript found hidden in bookpublished at 12:00 British Summer Time 19 April 2016

    A medieval manuscript, thought to date from the 14th Century, has been discovered behind the cover of another book.

    The parchment had been used to help bind a book produced in 1548.

    Lorraine Finch, a conservator who uncovered the rare plainsong, describes the find as "amazingly exciting... of national significance".
