  1. Far East fans for football clubpublished at 15:06 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

If, when travelling abroad, you mention you come from Norfolk, do you get this response "Norwich City"?

That football recognition factor could now also include King's Lynn Town. Three of The Linnets players are of Malaysian descent, and this has caught the interest of the country's edition of the FourFourTwo, external football magazine.

It's published an article about the club, written by their managing editor Seng Foo Lee.

He says he wouldn't be surprised if it means the west Norfolk club will now have more followers in Malaysia.

"We always follow the progress of our players outside the country, so I think King's Lynn will have a bit more international appeal from now on... Norwich City played in Malaysia about 12 years ago, and they were quite huge with the locals here."

But will any of the Linnets' players be eligible to play for the national Malaysia team?

    Quote Message

You can't have a dual passport in Malaysia... if they choose to play for Malaysia they would have to give up their British passport."

  2. Drink drive officer not suspended from workpublished at 15:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

A police officer who's been banned from driving after pleading guilty to drink driving has not been suspended from work.

PC Lorna Stoker was arrested after failing a roadside breath test on the A149 shortly before 02:00 on Monday, 5 December. She blew 57 micrograms of alcohol - the limit is 35.

At Great Yarmouth Magistrates' Court today, the police constable pleaded guilty to drink driving and was given a 15-month ban.

A spokeswoman for Norfolk Police says PC Stoker has not been suspended from work, but is on restricted duties.

She is subject to internal conduct proceedings, which will begin early in 2017.

  7. What to expect from rail services in the new yearpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

So that's what's happening on our mainline rail service over the festive period, but what can we expect in the new year?

Work on the main line from Norwich to London Liverpool Street, for the Crossrail project, will continue for the first three months on 2017.

In January, the engineering work will mostly be on Sundays, but in February and March it will be on both weekend days.

    Rail line with overhead cables

Local lines will operate as normal, but Greater Anglia's Jonathan Denby advises all rail passengers to check their journeys before they travel.

As for those price rises, Mr Denby says the policy on fares is set by the government across the network: "The fare rise for passengers on Greater Anglia is on average 1.8%, slightly below the national average of 2.3%... we try to keep them as low as practically possible."

  8. Are you planning on travelling by train this Christmas?published at 11:43 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

The festive season is going to be a busy time on our rail lines, with the Christmas rush coupled with engineering works for the Crossrail project, external.

There will be no direct route from Norwich to London Liverpool Street, as Greater Anglia's Jonathan Denby explained to BBC Radio Norfolk's Chrissie Jackson:

Jonathan Denby in the BBC Radio Norfolk studio

"From this Saturday, 24 December to 2 January inclusive, the rail line from Norwich to London Liverpool Street closes at Shenfield... a coach or bus will take passengers from Witham to Newbury Park tube station.

"On working days - the 28 to 30 January - a coach will take passengers from Witham to Stansted for a train service through to London."

Greater Anglia train leaving Norwich station

Rail passengers heading to London have the option of travelling from Norwich, via Cambridge. The exception to this is the weekend of the 31 December and 1 January, when work is being done on a new station to the north of Cambridge.

Local branch lines from Norwich to Sheringham, Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft will operate as normal over the festive period.

  9. Festive birds go under the hammerpublished at 11:11 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

Have you got a turkey for your Christmas table?

If not, head along to Aylsham where several hundred festive birds go under the hammer later this morning.

Keys, external has held its Christmas sale since 1953, but David Gould says numbers are limited this year:

"There's 200 birds booked in, in years gone by there's been 400-600... no ducks this year, and we're very light on geese, possibly only 20."

But if you're hoping your bird comes ready prepared, be warned, the auction is the "rough end" of the poultry market.

Successful bidders will be expected to remove the heads and legs, and draw the innards before popping in the stuffing and popping their bird into the oven.

  10. Jewish chapel given Grade II statuspublished at 10:44 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

A small chapel in Norwich has been given protected status by Historic England.

Historic England, external says the red and grey brick building, with slate roof, is a nationally-rare example of a chapel built for members of the Jewish community,  which had sufficient numbers to justify dedicated facilities for Jewish burials.

The north west corner of the cemetery is reserved for members of the Jewish faith.

The headstone in a Jewish cemetery is know as a Matzeivah, and bears an inscription in Hebrew.

  15. IVF funding cuts 'a shame'published at 09:02 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

Earlier this month we reported on the postcode lottery in fertility treatment, which showed South Norfolk was one of the worst districts to live in for those struggling to conceive.

No IVF treatment is available there under the NHS.

Until recently families in Great Yarmouth and Waveney could get three cycles, but that's been downgraded to two.

Two cycles are also available in Norwich, West Norfolk and North Norfolk.

The Bourn Hall fertility clinic has branches around East Anglia, including one in Wymondham which is in the middle of the South Norfolk CCG area.

Fran Rose Smith, its regional clinic manager, says that lack of publicly-funded treatment is disheartening, and causes anxiety for patients who know they need IVF.

    Quote Message

I think they need to rethink about what they can do differently. There are opportunities early on in the patient's care that we could help with. To offer nothing at all is a great shame."

    Chris Goreham
    BBC Radio Norfolk sport

King's Lynn Town manager Gary Setchell says he has no idea where Dan Quigley was on Saturday.

The player was named as a substitute for the 3-3 draw with Dorchester in the Southern Premier, but didn't actually turn up at the ground.

Quigley returned to the club in the summer after being released in April 2015 following a number of other no-shows.

  17. Norwich City manager admits promotion is now 'mammoth task'published at 08:24 Greenwich Mean Time 19 December 2016

    Chris Goreham
    BBC Radio Norfolk sport

Norwich City have lost further ground in The Championship promotion race and are now tenth in the table.

The Canaries lost 2-1 to Huddersfield on Friday night and then watched the top six clubs in the division all win their matches.

It leaves City four points off the play-off places and 15 adrift of Brighton who are second.

Norwich were top of the table just two months ago.

Manager Alex Neil told me automatic promotion to the Premier League is starting to look like a tall order.

"It's a mammoth task. The way things are going it looks highly unlikley, we're going to catch the top two," he said.

"It looks as if the play-offs might be our best option."
