An arthritic penguin called Dippy has forged a bromance with his 57-year-old keeper. 

The Humboldt penguin moved to Great Yarmouth Sea Life Centre a year ago when his long-term home at the Isle of Wight's Seaview Wildlife Encounter was forced to close. 

At 21 years old he is the senior bird in the flock, and most of his feathered friends have already paired up. But Dippy has grown particularly fond of aquarist Dave Warriner.

While Dippy seems happy when any of his human guardians enter his enclosure, it is only Dave who gets an enthusiastic braying call and then a swift waddle approach to receive a friendly tickle.

Further outbreaks of rain, sleet or snow and this could lead to a covering of snow in places across the BBC East region tonight.

It's also likely to turn quite murky at times with the risk of frost and ice, as temperatures fall. 

Minimum Temperature: -1C (30F).

Saturday will be cold and cloudy with further wintry showers feeding in on a light-to-moderate north to north-easterly wind. 

These showers are likely to turn mainly to rain by the afternoon. 

Maximum Temperature 4C (39F).

The A12 south of Great Yarmouth has been re-numbered and now becomes an extra section of the A47 creating a continuous trunk road from Peterborough to Lowestoft. 

Highways England said the change is part of the government's road investment strategy up to 2020.

Aran Nugent, from Highways England, external, said: "The A12 is also now a continuous trunk road from Ipswich into London, with the A47 a continuous trunk road from Peterborough to Lowestoft. 

"We do not anticipate this will create any additional traffic or direct any extra drivers onto this road. 

"The costs of the work have been minimised as most signs will have patches stuck on. 

"Those signs being replaced were at their end of their lifespan and would have had to be replaced soon anyway."

Two men from London have been jailed after admitting dealing drugs in Norwich. 

Joshua Igbokei, 24, and and Shirajul Islam, 27, both from Stamford Road in London, were arrested in Barrack Street in March 2015 by police who found cannabis and cash in their vehicle.

Later their seized mobile phones were examined and one contained evidence of class A drug supply. 

It had been used to send over 6,000 text messages in a 28-day period, many to known users of class A drugs in and around Norwich, Norwich Crown Court was told.

Igbokei was sentenced to five years in prison for being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin and possession of cannabis. 

Islam received a six-year sentence for being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin. 

Ch Supt Dave Marshall said: "Although no drugs were found on Igbokei and Islam, investigations found they had significant involvement in the supply of Class A drugs."

Hopton-on-Sea usually only makes the national papers once a year, and that's hidden away in the sports section when the World Indoor Bowls championship hits Potters Resort.

(It might sneak on to the front pages if there's a streaker at said event.)

But there is national interest in the discovery of the holdalls full of cocaine.

Norwich City's players are showing distinct improvement but need to maintain intensity and aggression, manager Alex Neil says. 

Key midfield players are missing for the home game against Nottingham Forest tomorrow. 

Attacking midfielder Steven Naismith has a slight set-back with hamstring injury.

"It's nothing major but Steven is not going to be ready for this weekend. That's frustrating for us," the Norwich, external boss said.

"Louis Thompson's surgery was a success but he's damaged his Achilles badly. It's a long road for him.

"My impressions of Tuesday's game are exactly the same now I've watched it back. The boys are in a good place at the moment. 

"Performances have been better. The Wigan game we should have won. We've got to maintain the levels of intensity and aggression that we've had at home in recent games." 

But he did warn of dangers ahead after the Forest manager's job was secured until the end of the season. 

"Gary Brazil's done well at Forest since he's taken over. He's in a no-lose position and they're enjoying their football."

Great Yarmouth shot putter Sophie McKinna wants to use her Olympic heartbreak to inspire better things this year. 

The 22-year-old competes in Sheffield this weekend at the British trials for next month's European Indoor Championships.

McKinna has admitted that she couldn't bring herself to watch any of last year's Olympic Games after missing out on selection. 

"I've got a lot of people who doubted me last year and thought I wouldn't come back to the sport, so I want to throw a long way and prove a point."

The discovery of 360 kilos of drugs worth £50m on two beaches in Norfolk is one of the largest hauls ever washed up on the British coast. 

It could also mean a switch away from the Channel crossing where there are extra patrols because of the refugee crisis, but the National Crime Agency, external said the investigation was at an early stage and they could not comment.

"It's fair to say you don’t get that sort of quantity of drugs wash up very often. The investigation is ongoing so we can’t draw conclusions at this stage," a spokesman said.

In 2005, a sack containing drugs was found washed up on the beach at Burgh Island near Kingsbridge - a popular south Devon family holiday destination. 

At the time it seemed a large number of packages, but compared to the Norfolk find it now seems miniscule. 

Amounts of illegal drugs being smuggled seems to have mushroomed.

In 2009, cocaine with sale value of £2.5m was in a number of packages found washed up on two Cornish beaches - 52kg at Bude and on the Lizard peninsula. 

Then in 2009, a 20kg haul of cocaine, worth £6m at the time, was found washed ashore at Frenchman's Bay, Rye on the Sussex coast.

A plan to axe more than 150 jobs at poultry firm Bernard Matthews, external' Norfolk base has been revealed to the Unite, external union. 

Representatives of the workforce met management on Thursday afternoon where a review of the business was discussed.

The company, which operates in Norfolk and Suffolk, wants to cut more than 90 shop floor jobs by ceasing chicken production at the Great Witchingham plant with the rest coming from head office on the same site. 

"If these changes proceed, they will create a business which is fit for future growth," said a spokesperson for Bernard Matthews.  

"Our focus now is to support colleagues affected and ensure we explore all options available to us to mitigate potential job losses."

Unite called the threat to up to 155 jobs "deeply disappointing".

The National Crime Agency is carrying out an investigation to trace the owners of holdall bags washed up on two Norfolk beaches containing £50m-worth of cocaine.

The drugs, weighing about 360 kilos (800lb) were found by a member of the public on Thursday at Hopton and earlier today by searchers at Caister.

Supt Dave Buckley said: "We are assisting the National Crime Agency with further searches.

"We believe we have recovered all the packages but should any member of the public find one they are urged to contact Norfolk Police immediately. 

"We will have extra officers in the area to monitor the situation."    

Stephen Fry, who is the chairman of Save Soho, warns the area "could change dramatically".

About 360 kilos of cocaine with a potential value of £50m has washed up on two Norfolk beaches. 

A member of the public told police on Thursday afternoon about several holdalls at Hopton-on-Sea between Gorleston and Lowestoft. 

Police and Border Force officers investigated and the items were passed to the National Crime Agency (NCA).   

A further small number of packages were discovered separately near Caister earlier today. 

Matthew Rivers, from the NCA, said: "We are now working to try and establish how the bags ended up where they did, however it is extremely unlikely that this was their intended destination. 

"This is obviously a substantial seizure of class A drugs, and its loss will represent a major blow to the organised criminals involved." 

A search operation is under way along a 14-mile (22km) length of the Norfolk coast involving police, Border Force and the Norfolk Lowland Search and Rescue group.

Groups of people are searching beach and dunes from Hemsby to Hopton. 

Norfolk Police have declined to give any details, but said a statement would be issued later.
