  1. Thousands of dog owners breaking microchip lawpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Sarah Jenkins
    BBC Local Live

One year ago it became compulsory for all dogs in England to be microchipped.

However, new figures from  Dog's Trust, external show that 70,000 dog owners in the East haven't got their pets microchipped and are breaking the law.

The law was introduced in the hope it would make it easier to reunite stray or lost dogs with their owners.

When a dog is microchipped, a tiny chip about the size of a grain of rice is inserted under the loose skin on the back of its neck, giving it a unique 15-digit code.

Lee Paris from Dogs Trust says some owners are "nervous" about the process, but he can "assure anyone that it doesn't hurt the dog at all".

Dog owners who have not had their pets microchipped could face a fine of up to £500 .

  2. 'Bodies still be to recovered' from fatal car crashpublished at 11:32 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

I'm come to Pulham Market, where late last night three teens lost their lives when their car left the road.

Signs on the roundabout at the A140 warn motorists the road through to Tivetshall Road is closed. A long stretch of the road is sealed off either side of the crash.

This is the scene just a few hundred yards along the road.

Two police vehicles and sign warning of accident

It's a long stretch of road, remote and twisting. A police officer told me the black Ford KA left the road some way along from where I'm standing, in a remote area and not in the village.

A big recovery operation is under way, and I understand the bodies of the three males are still to be recovered.

Local diversions are in place, and the road is expected to remain closed for most of today.

Police are appealing for anyone who has information about the manner in which the vehicle was travelling prior to the accident, or who witnessed the collision, to contact them on 101.

Three police officers have now been served with gross misconduct notices and will be investigated criminally on suspicion of misconduct in public office after the death of a Colchester man who was arrested at a holiday camp in Suffolk.

Paul Gladwell (also known as Paul Reynolds), 38, died on Thursday, 16 February in the James Paget Hospital after reports of a fight at Pontins in Lowestoft two days earlier.

The father-of-three was being taken to the police investigation centre in Great Yarmouth when officers realised he needed medical treatment. He was then admitted to the hospital in Gorleston.

A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said its inquiry was progressing well.

    Pontins

Suffolk Police is conducting a parallel investigation into the actions of the security staff at the holiday camp in Pakefield who were involved in detaining Mr Gladwell up to the point when officers arrived.

No arrests have been made at this time. Serving a gross misconduct notice advises an officer or member of police staff that their conduct is subject to investigation - such notices are not judgemental in any way. At the end of the investigation it will be for an IPCC commissioner to decide whether to refer the matter to the Crown Prosecution Service to consider if criminal charges should be brought.

  5. Road likely to remain closed after triple fatality accidentpublished at 09:17 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

The road will remain closed for most of the day, while investigations continue into a fatal car accident.

Three people died at the scene when their vehicle left the road at around 23:45 last night.

  7. Irvine: Change needed at Norwich Citypublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 6 April 2017

    Jay Lawrence
    BBC Radio Norfolk

Caretaker boss Alan Irvine says change is needed sooner rather than later at Norwich City.

The Canaries lost 3-0 at Huddersfield Town last night , stretching their winless streak away from home to seven games.

The match was goalless at half-time, but a devastating seven-minute spell in the second half put the result beyond doubt.

Irvine has been in temporary charge for four matches following the sacking of Alex Neil.

He says the feeling of uncertainty needs to end as soon as possible.

"I didn't think it would last as long as it has," he said.

"My view is something needs to be done sooner rather later.

"Clearly, there is work to be done in starting to build for next season."

As it stands, Saturday's home game against Reading will be Irvine's last as Norwich manager.

More driver education is needed says a cycling group following the release of figures on the number of road accidents, compared to last year.

Earlier we reported earlier that the number of people being killed or seriously injured on Norfolk's roads has increased in the last 12 months.

Cyclists saw the greatest increase in crashes with 66 killed or seriously injured in Norfolk - a rise of 78% compared to last year, according to the  Road Casualty Reduction Partnership Board, external .

    Cycle lane

Jeff Jordan, of the Norwich Cycling Campaign, said: "It is worrying that there has been an increase, but it is partly based on the increase in the number of people cycling."

He said there needs to be more "education for motorists about cyclists needing more space".

He added: "Segregated cycling lanes are a great help, but unfortunately we have very few of those in Norfolk."

  16. East MEP criticises Farage 'mafia' remarks in Strasbourgpublished at 16:43 British Summer Time 5 April 2017

    Orla Moore
    BBC Local Live

MEPS Vicky Ford and Nigel Farage

East of England MEP Vicky Ford has criticised the former UKIP leader Nigel Farage for remarks he made in Strasbourg today.

Mr Farage MEP was jeered in the European Parliament after accusing the EU of "behaving like the mafia" over Brexit.

But the response by Mrs Ford raised a round of applause among fellow MEPs.

"Calling other colleagues members of the mafia or gangsters does not show mutual respect, it does not represent the views of the vast majority of the British people and it is not the view of the British Prime Minister who wants to remain friends, allies, and partners," she said.

MEPs had gathered in Strasbourg to discuss and debate forthcoming negotiations with the UK following the triggering of Article 50 last Wednesday.

More than 60 MEPs spoke during the three-hour debate.

Mrs Ford said: "When negotiating a tricky separation one needs to keep calm, but when Farage spoke it was like a herd of bulls had just been driven straight through the china shop."

Suffolk Police has praised the bravery of two sexual assault victims after a man was jailed for 17 years for a string of offences against them.

Ronald Sharp, 52, of The Street, Eriswell, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court for rape and other sexual offences involving a woman and a child.

Speaking after the sentencing, Det Ch Insp Barry Byford said: "This terrible case only serves to highlight the bravery of the victims in coming forward and re-living the events in order to achieve justice.

"I hope the sentence passed today provides some level of closure and allows them to continue to recover from these traumatic experiences."

Sharp, who was described as a "manipulative bully" by the prosecution, was found not guilty of six rape charges involving another woman.
