    A misty and murky start to the day across the BBC East region, and the skies will remain generally cloudy.

    There'll be oubreaks of light patchy rain and drizzle as temperatures reach 14C (57F).

    It will be a dry start to the night with clear spells and some patchy mist. 

    Cloud will thicken from the west later, eventually bringing some patchy rain.

    Temperatures initially falling to around 5C (41F), but rising later in the night.

    Tuesday is likely to be a cloudy day with some further outbreaks of mainly light and patchy rain. 

    The winds will eventually turn more northerly and temperatures reaching about 13C (55F).

  5. Housing plans turned downpublished at 17:40 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Plans to build 300 new homes in Downham Market have been turned down.

    The application for land off the Downham to Swaffham Road had sparked opposition from local councillors.

    It's a site that was originally only earmarked for up to 170 houses.  King's Lynn & West Norfolk Borough Council's planning committee turned the application down because of the density of the development.

    Time now to look back through the archives... where we've discovered this photo taken more than 80 years ago.

    On 2 April, 1936 these workers at Walsingham were making up palm crosses and branches to be carried in procession, and distributed, on Palm Sunday in Catholic and Anglican churches.

    Walsingham, in north west Norfolk, has been a place of pilgrimage since medieval times, external . It's known as England's Nazareth and has two shrines.

  7. Did you witness city centre assault?published at 17:04 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Emergency services were called to Chapelfield Plain in Norwich shortly before 16:00 on Saturday, following reports a man had been attacked with a metal bar.

    The victim, who's in his 20s, was taken to hospital for treatment for head and arm injuries.

    The suspect fled the scene after passers-by shouted, running down the alleyway next to New Look. 

    Police are appealing for anyone with information to contact them.

  8. Video: Fire sweeps through thatched housepublished at 17:02 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    An investigation will be held into the cause of a fire which swept through a thatched house.

    Fire crews from across the county were called to the farmhouse on Wymers Lane, near South Walsham, shortly before 21:30 yesterday.

  9. Fine weather fills recycling centrespublished at 16:51 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    The weekend's fine weather was good news for some... but there was a downside. 

    Our recycling centres saw 2,500 more visitors compared to last weekend, and a lot more waste being delivered than usual.

    The centre at Sheringham stopped accepting general waste for several hours today, because of the amount being stored on the floor.

    And this afternoon, Morningthorpe in south Norfolk stopped taking garden waste for a short time.

    A spokesperson for the county council says all its waste sites, external are now accepting the usual materials.

  10. Police see rise in complaints about dronespublished at 16:40 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    There's been a dramatic increase in the number of drone-related incidents reported to police over the last three years.

    In 2014, there were seven incidents in Norfolk. That figure rose six-fold to 42 in 2015. 

    Last year it increased sharply, to 168.

    In January last year, a resident told police they were woken on two mornings by a drone hovering over the house. They believed it was "scoping property in order to commit a burglary".

    Officers conducted a "reassurance visit" to the home.

    The figures were revealed to the Press Association, which asked police forces in the UK for figures on reports of incidents involving drones.

  11. Funding to deliver improved care to mums and babiespublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    The James Paget University Hospital, external  (JPUH) is one of 134 acute trusts with maternity units across the country to receive a share of £8m from Health Education England, external  (HEE) to improve maternity safety.

    Baroness Cumberledge, the government adviser who led the review of maternity services, opened upgraded maternity facilities at the Gorleston hospital in 2015. The birthing unit helped bring facilities for mums up to national quality levels.

    In March last year, the  hospital was awarded  £23,000 to invest in new maternity safety equipment, including the purchase of machines to measure a baby's heart rate.

    The latest funding of £59,833 will be used for training which has to be completed by March next year. 

    The HEE will then commission an independent evaluation to see what improvements have been made to quality and safety within maternity services.

  12. Maternity training gets funding boostpublished at 16:17 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    The James Paget University Hospital, external (JPUH) has received nearly £60,000 of funding to boost its maternity training.

    Health Education England (HEE) has allocated £59,833 to the Gorleston hospital as part of a nationwide training programme to improve maternity safety.

    Head of Midwifery, Jayne Utting, says they'll use it to help further improve the safety of care delivered to mums and their babies in complex or emergency situations, and enhance their care experience.

  13. Water firm to invest £425m next year with £17m to fix leakspublished at 16:06 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Anglian Water has announced almost £0.5bn of investment for the coming financial year. 

    Projects worth £425m will start during the next 12 months and are part of the water company's five-year plan.

    They include spending £17m on tackling leakage, £48m on maintaining and renewing the water pipe network and £1m on an initiative based at Newmarket that will look to pioneer new technology before it is rolled out to the firm's network. 

    Jane Taylor, head of customer services at Anglian Water, external , claimed: "Bills are still lower than they were four years ago thanks to the price reductions we promised back then. 

    "To strike the right balance we're continuing to keep costs as low as possible long term while still investing heavily in the things customers care about most." 

    The company provides water and sewage services in Buckinghamshire, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire, Norfolk and Suffolk. 

  14. Tougher legislation to protect children onlinepublished at 15:08 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    A national charity says a change in the law to protect children is long overdue.

    The NSPCC claims tougher anti-grooming legislation which comes into force today is badly needed.

    Over the last five years, the number of abusers meeting children in Norfolk after grooming then online has more than doubled, according to the charity. 

    In the year up to March 2016, police recorded 11 offences compared to 5 in 2012.

    It's been campaigning for a change in the law, which until today has prevented police from arresting groomers until they meet a child or abuse them. But now police will be able to intervene sooner.

    The NSPCC is hailing it a victory for common sense, which will increase the protection of children online.

    It's commended the justice secretary and South West Norfolk MP Liz Truss for doing what it says is the right thing.

    As we told you earlier, filming's taking place in Norwich city centre for a new movie.

    Fighting With My Family is about the WWE wrestler, Paige, who's from Norwich.

    It's produced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and directed by Stephen Merchant.

  17. Greater Anglia wants to hear customers' thoughts on new trains published at 13:39 British Summer Time 3 April 2017

    Greater Anglia has released images of the designs for its new trains which will be introduced across the East Anglian network in 2019/20.

    The carriages will all be kitted out with wifi, plugs and USB points, air conditioning and new-style seats.

    The train operator wants passengers to give their feedback on what they think about the design and layout, in which £1.4bn is being invested.
