There are hopes that a long-awaited third river crossing for Great Yarmouth will be approved in today's budget.
Local councils and business organisations have spent 10 years campaigning for the new bridge, which would cross the River Yare at South Town road.
"It would give direct access from the port to the main road network without lorries having to go through the town," said borough council leader Graham Plant.
"We are right on the edge of England. This major piece of infrastructure will open up a new era for what Great Yarmouth can offer the rest of the country."
Studies suggest that the new bridge could be worth £1.5bn to the local economy over a 20-year period. The plans have been drawn up and initial funding already secured. All that's needed now is government funding.
If the chancellor backs it, the bridge could be built by 2022.
