Drivers using the A47 near King's Lynn could face months of disruption.
A £3m project gets under way today to repair both bridges at the Saddlebow interchange after they were damaged by an over-height vehicle.
The bridges carrying the A148 over the A47 will be closed for the duration of the work as will part of the A47 west-bound.
Diversions will be in place via the Pullover roundabout for west-bound traffic and the Hardwick interchange for traffic heading east-bound.
Highways England says the work should be completed by Easter.
And the stretch of road beneath the Saddlebow bridge will be closed for up to eight weekends - but none throughout December.
This is for beam replacement work.
Diversions will be in place for motorists, but the bridges will remain open for pedestrians and cyclists.
The work is part of an £18m package of maintenance work to maintain the A47 in Norfolk, external, which will include resurfacing, drainage repairs, along with safety improvements and replacing street lights.
