  2. Seventy trees for 70 years of her reignpublished at 17:04 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

Just before we go for the evening - a word about a project in Buckinghamshire that chimes very much with the "green planet" theme that featured in the Platinum Party at the Palace event on Saturday.

Seventy trees which hold a special place in people's hearts have been chosen to represent the 70 years Her Majesty has been on the throne.

Buckinghamshire Council asked people to nominate their favourite tree or woodland to "celebrate the natural beauty of the county".

"The stories that were submitted about why certain trees or areas of woodland are important to people were really touching," said Peter Strachan, who has been spearheading the council's jubilee celebrations.

"People spoke about how important their local countryside was to them during the lockdowns, as they could get some respite, enjoy fresh air and exercise, and feel a sense of calm amidst the crisis we were all facing."

The 70 Trees for 70 Years campaign will be compiled into a photobook that will be available later this year.

Benches are covered with crafted Beefeaters, trees are covered in woolly art and there are metres upon metres of knitted bunting.

Because this is - let's face it - more than a mere peppering of knitting, the town's crafters got their needles out back in February 2021 and about 50 people have contributed to the scenes.

  11. Tiny train station 'very special' for royalspublished at 15:30 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

Much of Saturday night's Platinum Party at the Palace, watched by millions, reflected on the Queen's 70 years on the throne and, in a region that has so many links to the Royal Family, we also have our own royal history.

A former train station tucked away in a quiet corner of west Norfolk became a royal station by "coincidence", a local historian says.

Wolferton Royal Station became a focal point for the world when footage was broadcast of King George's coffin being taken by train to King's Cross when he died at nearby Sandringham in 1952.

The station's construction started in 1861 to serve the village's 200 residents - ahead of King Edward finishing building Sandringham in 1870.

Andrew Murray, of Hunstanton Heritage Centre, said: "It was a very special station... when the line was planned, there was no idea that the royal family would have Sandringham."

Jemma Melvin created the dessert, inspired by the lemon posset served at the Queen's wedding to Prince Philip.
