    • A man and a woman were killed and two men hurt in a single vehicle in Rushden, in Northamptonshire on Friday night. They were in a grey BMW that left the roundabout junction with John Clark Way and Tyne Way at about 21:10 BST
    • More than 100 trains were delayed as police tried to get a trespasser off the railway line connecting London and Edinburgh on Saturday afternoon. British Transport Police used a helicopter and dog teams to help search for the person in the Potters Bar area of Hertfordshire, Great Northern Rail said. It is understood the trespasser evaded capture for some time, but was eventually found hiding in a tree
    • A house and garage have been badly damaged in a fire in Writtle, near Chelmsford. Crews were called to the blaze, in Cow Watering Lane, just after 16:00 BST on Saturday. There are no reports of any injuries
    • A project that sees free digital devices handed out to people with care needs has seen Suffolk County Council save about £2.5m from its adult care budget. The Cassius service provides gadgets such as smartwatches that call for help in emergencies and video monitors for carers

    This striking artwork is on show at Great Yarmouth train station in Norfolk, as part of the jubilee celebrations.

    It features images of the Queen from 1952, the year of her accession, and from this year, alongside a picture of the train that brought her to Great Yarmouth in 1985 and the nearby Town Hall, which this year celebrates its own 140th anniversary.

    Great Yarmouth's riverside Town Hall was officially opened on 31 May, 1882, by the then Prince of Wales - later to become Edward VII. More than 100 years later, Queen Elizabeth II visited with the Duke of Edinburgh in 1985, where they were welcomed by a choir of 250 local children.

    The mural is the result of partnership between arts group Reprezent Projects, Greater Anglia, and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

    About 500 people were expecting to party in the high street as the village of Nayland with Wissington, in the south of Suffolk, came together for a big jubilee bash.

    Well, they're still having one, but the weather forced organisers into a plan B.

    It's been moved indoors to the village hall, with two marquees erected outside.

    It's a true "keep calm and carry on" moment in the village, with everyone pulling together to make sure the jubilee lunch and party goes ahead.

    The village came together for the Silver Jubilee in 1977 and an exhibition at the local museum documents the fun that was had back in the day.

    Sam Ryder is musical royalty right now.

    From singing in his Essex shed and becoming a TikTok superstar, external with more than 12 million followers, he claimed the best finish for the UK at Eurovision in decades and then crowned it with a Platinum Jubilee performance at Buckingham Palace.

    "It was a total honour to have played at the Platinum Jubilee... it's something I'll never forget," he said.

    The singer, from Maldon, gave a cheeky jubilee tweak to his hit Space Man... singing "Space Ma'am" during his rhinestone-clad performance.

    A host of stars took part in the huge Platinum Jubilee concert outside Buckingham Palace on Saturday. It featured a number of performers from the East region.

    And Stephen Fry, who lives in Norfolk, took to the stage to introduce The Prince of Wales, who shared a personal tribute to the Queen during the Platinum Party at the Palace.

  6. Queen's Platinum Jubilee: Visits from Her Majesty in the East of Englandpublished at 11:51 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    An online map showing pictures of visits made by the Queen across England has been published for the Platinum Jubilee.

    Historic England said its map highlighted some of the "significant places", external the Queen had visited both before and during her 70-year reign.

    Duncan Wilson, Historic England's chief executive, said he hoped the pictures would inspire people to "follow in her footsteps" and visit local sites.

    The Sandringham Estate, external, in west Norfolk, has been a royal residence since 1862 when the future King Edward VII had the 16th Century house almost completely rebuilt.

    It was the setting for the first Christmas broadcast in 1932 by George V and the Queen traditionally spends her winters there, broadcasting her first Yuletide message from there in 1957.

    It was a very soggy start for the Jubilee Junior Parkrun, at Jubilee Park in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, this morning.

    A bit of rain wasn't going to spoil the fun, though, and they turned out to celebrate.

    Junior Parkrun is a free event in the park, external for 4-14 year olds, and is held each Sunday from 09:00 BST.

    • A Suffolk man who took up painting to help with his mental health will auction off his best piece yet, today. Roman Benjamin has produced a special portrait of the Queen for the Platinum Jubilee
    • Police have named a 73-year-old woman who died on Friday following a three-vehicle crash on the A11 last Wednesday. Catherine Moore, from Ware in Hertfordshire, was driving a Porsche that was in collision with a lorry near Mildenhall in Suffolk

    Holbrook in Suffolk held a weekend of jubilee celebrations, including a traditional summer fete with splat the rat, coconut shies and more.

    The fete followed the lighting of a beacon on the same spot two nights previously... and Stage One of the Women's Tour, external cycle race is due to pass through the village, external, on the Shotley Peninsula near Ipswich, on Monday.

    That's the upbeat organiser of the Big Jubilee Lunch event taking place outside Norwich City Hall between 11:00 and 15:00.

    Big Lunches are taking place across the country and despite the windy and damp conditions, the Norwich one is going on, external - regardless.

    Anyone can join in, and people are invited to bring their own picnics or there's food to buy from caterers.

    There's also a whole lot of live music and entertainment laid on from choirs to cover bands, and face painting to circus skills workshops.

  11. St Albans party culminates in beacon lightingpublished at 10:42 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    St Albans Museums has thanked everybody who came to see the beacon lit at St Albans Museum and Gallery, one of 3,500 beacons lit across the UK and commonwealth in celebration of the Platinum Jubilee.

    The lighting ceremony formed the culmination of the St Albans Platinum Party which took place in the city centre.

    Meanwhile, elsewhere in the city, another Jubilee beacon was lit in Highfield Park.

    It stands in Hither Wood, planting for which began in 2012 to coincide with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

    An oak planted by Sophie Countess of Wessex on 1 May 2013, marks Hither Wood as an official Jubilee Wood.

  12. St Albans revels at Platinum Partypublished at 10:38 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Thousands came out to enjoy a free street party in St Albans city centre at the start of the Platinum Jubilee weekend.

    Organised by St Albans City and District Council and sponsored by St Albans BID, external, residents and visitors enjoyed a multicultural programme of entertainment and music including party music from different traditions.

    A plethora of traders selling food and drinks lined St Peter’s St which was closed to vehicles for the occasion, while children’s entertainment included games, face-painting and circus skills workshops.

    BID board director, Mandy McNeil, congratulated everyone involved for an "incredible, inclusive celebration of our Queen".

    "There’s nothing like a St Albans street party," she said.

    "The St Albans Platinum Party helped showcase why [it] is such an amazing destination to visit, work, shop, live, play and enjoy."

  13. Beacon pageant master Bruno Peek says jubilee event an 'honour'published at 10:34 British Summer Time 5 June 2022

    Platinum Jubilee beacons were lit across the East of England

    The man who masterminded the Platinum Jubilee beacons celebration said it had been an "honour".

    Bruno Peek, who lives in Gorleston in Norfolk, believed more than 3,300 beacons, lanterns and bonfires lit up the night skies across the British Isles and Commonwealth on Thursday.

    He has previously organised the millennium beacon chain as well as tributes for the Queen's golden, diamond jubilees and her 90th birthday.

    Mr Peek, born to Polish parents in King's Lynn and placed in a children's home before being adopted aged four, has gone on to work in a number of different professions and said he was proud of his achievements.

    "I still don't believe it - because here's a young boy who used to be a baker standing next to his monarch," he said.

    Thousands of beacons illuminated the night skies as this weekend's Platinum Jubilee got under way on bank holiday Thursday.

    Pageant master Bruno Peek, who organised the beacon celebrations from his home in Gorleston, near Great Yarmouth, Norfolk, said it had been the first time the 54 Commonwealth countries had taken part in such an event.

    Beacons were lit in each capital city of the Commonwealth, external from Australia to Zambia.

    "If I can bring people together through beacons, which have been a symbol of pageantry and celebration for the royal family since Queen Victoria, that's the way you start working on international and national projects," said Mr Peek.

    "That way you can bring people from all walks of life together."
