    Cloud will thicken through this evening to bring outbreaks of rain with temperatures falling to 7C (45F).

    Much of Tuesday morning will be dry with bright spells, but heavy rain will develop for the afternoon with gusts of 50-60mph (80-97km/h) possible towards the evening. 

    Temperatures will reach 15C (59F).  

  3. Social workers could be 'put off' job without academy, says councillor in chargepublished at 17:30

    The county councillor responsible for children's services says she would "encourage other authorities to do something similar" to the Northamptonshire Social Work Academy, which has had its first graduates.

    Heather Smith said putting newly-qualified social workers straight into the job can "put them off", but the academy allows extra learning in the classroom and on the job so staff can adapt to the "challenging" profession.

    We heard earlier from some graduates who praised the new training scheme, saying it made them feel at-ease.

    Officials at Irthlingborough Town Cricket Club told me they were heartbroken when they saw the damage vandals had done to their pitch.

    Club chairman Keith Parsons said he was shocked when he first saw the damage: "It was probably the tears welling up in my eyes which told the story. This is devastating.

    "I need some advice from the contractor to see if we can get pitches ready for next year."

    The emergency services have now recovered a body from the River Nene in Northampton after a call this morning from a member of the public.

    Both police and fire and rescue attended the scene at Nunn Mills Road shortly before 11:30.

    A post mortem-examination will now take place to identify the body and establish a cause of death.

  7. Fire destroys Wellingborough Town FC's clubhouse which 'keeps club alive'published at 16:40

    Wellingborough Town Football Club says the fire damage to its clubhouse means it has lost the "main facility for generating income to keep our club alive".

    It has made an appeal for support to help provide facilities, external at the Dog & Duck, which is also home to AFC Rushden & Diamonds.

  8. Jeremy Corbyn questions air strikes on IS in Syriapublished at 16:25

    Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has not backed the idea of air strikes against so-called Islamic State (IS) in Syria saying: "We have to be careful, one war does not necessarily bring about peace, it often can bring yet more conflict, more mayhem, more loss."

    Earlier Michael Ellis, Conservative MP for Northampton North, said he would support air strikes in Syria.  

    Prime Minister David Cameron said he would not hold a vote on Syrian air strikes until he knew he had the support of Parliament, saying a government defeat would be "damaging" for Britain's "reputation in the world".

  10. Disruption on rail line from Northampton to Birmingham to continue until tomorrowpublished at 15:50

    London Midland has told me there will be delays on the line from Northampton and Long Buckby to Birmingham until tomorrow morning due to a cable fire in Coventry.

    There will now be a reduced service with trains leaving Northampton at 16 minutes past the hour towards Birmingham, with the return service leaving Birmingham at 33 minutes past the hour.

    Simon Cox, a club official from Wellingborough Town Football Club, has sent us some pictures of the fire at the Dog & Duck clubhouse this morning.

    He said the fire in the early hours of this morning "has seen the loss of bar stock, television and audio equipment, club memorabilia and furniture".

    Mr Cox added that the cause of the fire was not yet known, but investigations by the police and fire service were continuing. Both Wellingborough Town and AFC Rushden & Diamonds play at the ground.

    Michael Ellis, the Conservative MP for Northampton North, says that due to the "clear and present danger" posed by so-called Islamic State (IS) the UK should join France in air strikes on IS targets in Syria.

    Yesterday the French Ministry of Defence said French aircraft had dropped 20 bombs on IS targets in the country.

    Northampton Town has said it would "like to thank all supporters for their continued patience and support", external, following news the winding-up petition against the club has been adjourned.

    The emergency services have been called to Nunn Mills Road in Northampton after a member of the public reported seeing a body in the River Nene.

    Both police and fire crews attended the scene shortly before 11:30.
