  2. Fire at the home of AFC Rushden & Diamonds being investigatedpublished at 12:35

    Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue have told us they are investigating a fire at the home of AFC Rushden & Diamonds which has "badly damaged" the clubhouse.

    Fire crews were called to the Dog and Duck ground - which is shared by Wellingborough Town and Diamonds - at just after 04:00 this morning.

    We'll try and find out some more information and get back to you soon.

    The Met Office has issued a "yellow warning" for wind tomorrow for the afternoon and evening due to Storm Barney.

    It says gusts could reach 60-70mph between 15:00 and 23:30 tomorrow, which is strong enough to "bring down trees".

  5. New social worker going straight into work is 'difficult'published at 11:35

    One of the first graduates from Northamptonshire's new social work academy has said it "eased" her back into social work after her university degree.

    The academy is one of just a handful across the country, putting newly-qualified social workers on a year-long intensive training programme, based in the classroom and the field.

    Graduate Faye Nicholls told me: "If I'd come in as a newly-qualified social worker and gone straight out into a team with a full case load that would have been quite difficult to deal with and manage."

    AFC Rushden & Diamonds have confirmed there was a fire in the clubhouse at their Dog & Duck ground in Wellingborough last night.

    The club says the fire is being investigated and does not yet know the extent of the damage.

    At the High Court in London the winding-up petition for Northampton Town has been adjourned until 30 November.

    This comes after the proposed administration hearing on 27 November instigated by Northampton Borough Council over £10.25m debt.

    The delay allows more time for takeover talks, which continue.

    Vigils continue to be held and public buildings around the world have been lit up in the colours of the French flag to honour the 129 people killed and hundreds who have been injured.

    Northampton Town won't face a points deduction today whatever happens at the High Court, where they face being wound-up over unpaid taxes.

    Northampton Borough Council hopes today's hearing will be adjourned so it can start the process of putting the club into administration instead.

    However, if that administration process is formally completed, the Cobblers will be docked 15 points in the league.

  13. Northamptonshire to mark minute's silence at 11:00 for victims of Paris attackspublished at 10:11

    Various places around the county will be honouring the Europe-wide minute's silence at 11:00 today for the victims of the Paris terror attacks.

    In Corby people are marking the occasion outside the Cube, while in Northampton the French tricolour is flying at half-mast outside the borough council offices.

    At 11, the mayor of Northampton, the leader of the council and its staff will gather alongside the flag to observe the silence.

    Over the weekend Irthlingborough Cricket Club said its pitch was deliberately targeted by vandals driving cars over the square.

    The club said the damage would be assessed today, adding police had been informed.

    Any adjournment of today's winding-up petition against Northampton Town would allow more time for takeover talks.

    A consortium led by former Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas has agreed in principle to buy the club, but has so far failed to do a deal with Northampton Borough Council over £10m debt that is owed to the authority.

    The Northampton Town Supporters' Trust and another consortium of local business people are also watching the situation and could make their own moves to purchase the club.

    I'm at Northampton Town's winding-up hearing today over £166,000 unpaid taxes to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs.

    Northampton Borough Council is owed £10m by the club and is hoping its own application to appoint an administrator will see the winding-up petition delayed.

    That way it will allow more time for a proposed takeover of the club to take place... and crucially, the council can then take steps to recover the debt.

    Nico Rosberg beat Brackley-based Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton for the second race in succession to win the Brazilian Grand Prix.

    The German converted pole position into a lead at the first corner and controlled the race from there, despite world champion Hamilton pushing hard throughout.

  19. Northamptonshire's 'tremendous' social work academy has first graduatespublished at 08:48

    Northamptonshire's social work academy was launched a year ago to improve the county's child protection services after an "inadequate" Ofsted rating.

    Its first intake of students have now graduated, including Vera Koroye.

    She said: "For me, it's all about helping children achieve and attain in life. The support from the academy has been tremendous".
