    A 70-year-old man tried to "forcibly kiss" a woman visiting a relative’s grave in Kingsthorpe Cemetery, Northampton yesterday morning.

    The man sat down beside the victim on a bench and appeared to try to console her. He first touched her hands and then her thighs, before grabbing her face and trying to kiss her.

    Police have posted a description of the offender on their website, external.

  3. Borough council leader says "something has gone seriously wrong" with Cobblers loanpublished at 11:40

    This morning, Northampton Borough Council leader Mary Markham told BBC Radio Northampton's Stuart Linnell "something has gone seriously wrong" with the £10.25m loan given to Northampton Town.

    An investigation is underway into where the money has gone and how it was given out.

    The leader of Northampton Borough Council, Mary Markham, has said she will be pursuing David Cardoza, who was chairman of the Cobblers at the time of the loan, to try and get the authority's money back.

    The council has "taken away" the £10.25m loan from Northampton Town and say they will look to recoup the money through the land they had given the club.

    A Conservative Central Office investigation into payments made to MP David Mackintosh's local party during his election campaign "has finished".

    Mary Markham, leader of Northampton Borough Council, said she had received a letter from the office of Tory party chairman Lord Feldman to say the inquiry had concluded.

    She said: "There was an error in declaring one of those payments and the Electoral Commission will deal with that in the correct and proper manner, but other than that the investigation has finished."

  7. London Midland rail franchise through Northampton and Long Buckby extendedpublished at 08:38

    Train operating company London Midland will continue to run rail services between London Euston and Birmingham serving Northampton and Long Buckby.

    The new franchise agreement will run through to October 2017.

    The A45 Braunston Road in Daventry is blocked due to diesel on the road. A car hit a lamp post, which has been cleared,but has left fuel on the road.

    There was an earlier accident northbound on the M1 between junction 18 and Catthorpe (junction 19). That has also been cleared, but there are still delays.
