    Daventry's MP says he's confident the effect on nearby villages of the latest expansion of Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal can be minimised.

    People in Kilsby say they're already affected by heavy lorries using their village as a shortcut, but Chris Heaston-Harris says the terminal's owner Prologis is doing something about it...

    Northamptonshire Police will maintain officer numbers at 1,220 for the next year, despite a cut in central government funding.

    The proposed budget from outgoing police and crime commissioner, Adam Simmonds (pictured), would see the part of council tax set aside for policing rise by 1.99%

    That would mean an extra £3.92 a year for band D homeowners.

    Adrian "Otis" Goldsmith has admitted at Stafford Crown Court that he stabbed himself with a knife to make it look like his wife had done so.

    The Northamptonshire Police officer is accused of murdering his wife Jill at their home in Northampton, but he claims it was self defence.

    The jury has also been shown a video of Mr Goldsmith's arrest. In it his face is covered in blood and there are blood spatters all over his clothes.

    The trial continue.

    The Canal and River Trust is asking people to become volunteer lock keepers.

    Volunteers would run the locks during the summer month at Braunstone, Long Buckby and Stoke Bruerne  - where I went earlier to meet Miriam Linforth from the Trust.

    The prosecutor in the trial of Adrian 'Otis' Goldsmith, the Northampton detective accused of murdering his wife is cross-examining him.

    Mr Goldsmith was asked why, if there were two violent struggles in the hall of the couple's Wootton Hall Park home, two roller brushes balanced on the bannister were not knocked off.

    The prosecutor at Stafford Crown Court also questioned why he had hit Jill Goldsmith on the back of the head with a mallet.

    Mr Goldsmith said he thought his wife was going to "rip off his testicles" during a struggle and that he would die from blood loss.

    He denies murder and the case continues.

    I'm back at Stafford Crown Court for the trial of Adrian 'Otis' Goldsmith, the Northampton detective accused of murdering his wife, Jill.

    He's been telling the jury about the day she died saying his wife was "ready for him" when he got home that day and wanted an argument.

    Work is due to start soon on the last phase of a scheme to expand the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, which is expected to create 9,000 jobs.

    Residents are worried about the amount of traffic, but rail freight experts say there is enough demand in the industry to justify a major expansion.

    People in the county are being asked to give up some of their time - and become a volunteer lock keeper for the 47 miles of inland waterways in Northamptonshire.

    The Canal and River Trust is interested to hear from people who could help run the locks at Stoke Bruerne, Braunstone and Long Buckby during the summer months.

    The role involves helping passing boaters, welcoming visitors and helping maintain the canal.

    Work is due to start on an expansion to the Daventry International Rail Freight Terminal, but one parish councillor told me "life is harder" due to the amount of vehicles already using it.

    Reg Dunn, from Kilsby Parish Council, said lorries "don't appear to be using the correct routes" meaning they get heavy traffic through Kilsby which damages the roads.

    Developers say the third phase of the terminal development is expected to create 9,000 jobs and there are plans in place to try and prevent lorries going through villages.

    There's disappointment in Corby over the news the new owners of Fairline Boats are to shut the factory in the town.

    The company went into administration at the end of last year with the loss of 380 jobs. The new business - Fairline Yachts - is taking on 100 employees, but will concentrate manufacturing in Oundle.

    New managing director of Fairline Yachts, Russell Currie, says there's "a great future" for the company.

    A Northampton police officer accused of murdering his wife is due to continue giving evidence in his own defence today. Jill Goldsmith was found beaten to death last March in the home she shared with her husband Adrian 'Otis' Goldsmith.

    The proescutor says she was savagely beaten with a range of weapons, including a tin of paint and a wooden mallet. Mr Goldsmith denies murder claiming he was the victim of domestic abuse.

    The case continues at Stafford Crown Court.
