    Young carers in the county have been celebrated this afternoon at the sixth annual Northamptonshire Carers Awards, external.

    The event at Barton Hall in Kettering recognised the contribution made by youngsters who take on the responsibility of caring for others across the county.

  3. Students at Northampton school "unwell" following vaccinationspublished at 17:26

    A school in Northampton has confirmed a number of pupils became unwell - and one was taken to A&E - following an immunisation session yesterday.

    A letter was sent to parents of pupils at Northampton School for Boys, external, who had been receiving the routine vaccination for Meningitis ACWY, warning them to seek medical advice if their child began to feel ill. Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust said all the children "are well" and "have suffered no long lasting ill effects".

    Richard Bernard, head master at Northampton School for Boys confirmed "a small number of students experienced an adverse reaction" to the vaccinations.

    Police are continuing their investigations following the discovery of a body in Billing Brook Road in Northampton.

    The road between North Holme Court, up to the A43 junction, has remained closed since yesterday lunchtime.

    Enquiries are being conducted into the circumstances around how the body came to be there. Officers say a post-mortem will be carried out as soon as possible, and the coroner has been informed of the death.

    The road closure remains in place, and is likely to be removed later on this evening.

    Northampton-born Andrew Baggaley says ping pong has the potential to be the new darts after defending his world title at the weekend.

    Chairman of promotions company Matchroom Sport, Barry Hearn, credited with turning darts from a 'pub game' into a big-money spectator sport, is trying to transform ping pong.

    "I think it's got the potential because it's such a fantastic spectacle," said Baggaley. "Barry is getting behind it and is enthusiastic about it, which is what we need."

  8. Hospitals urge people to use A&E only "if absolutely necessary"published at 16:12

    Northamptonshire's hospitals say they're continuing to experience extremely high numbers of patients at their Accident and Emergency departments.

    Both Kettering, external and Northampton, external Hospitals say they are urging members of the public to only come to A&E if absolutely necessary.

    They say staff at both hospitals are under significant pressure and are urging relatives of patients who have been discharged to collect them in a timely manner to help speed up the admission of waiting patients.

  10. Adrian Goldsmith murder trial: Judge to sum uppublished at 15:48

    The judge presiding over the trial of a Northamptonshire police detective accused of murdering his wife, will begin summing up shortly.

    Adrian Goldsmith admits causing fatal injuries to Jill Goldsmith - who was found beaten to death at the Northampton home she shared with him in March 2015 -  but denies murder, claiming his actions were in self defence.

    Today the jury has heard closing arguments from both the prosecution and defence.

    Following the judge's summing up which will begin later this afternoon, the jury will be left to decide whether Mr Goldsmith murdered his wife - or not.

    The defence in the trial of a Northamptonshire police detective accused of murder, has told the jury Adrian Goldsmith is a weak man who panicked - but that does not mean he is a murderer.

    In closing arguments at Stafford Crown Court, defence barrister Ms Cottage asked them to consider "manslaughter instead of murder."

    Hartley has had his disciplinary issues throughout his career, but Warren Gatland thinks it's a risk worth taking.

    I went down to Northampton's Billing Brook Road earlier today to take a look at the scene.

    Part of the road has been closed for more than 22 hours now after a body was found there.

    It has been more than 22 hours since Northamptonshire Police closed Northampton's Billing Brook Road yesterday evening.

    So far, details are scant to say the least. The short section of road between the A43 and North Holme Court remains closed after a body was found there, external.

    Police say officers are investigating how it came to be there, but almost a day after the closure are not saying if the body belongs to a man or a woman, how they think it came to be there or even if they are treating the incident as serious.

    He's one of three Saints players included in Eddie Jones's cut-down squad of 23, ahead of next weekend's Six Nations opener against Scotland at Murrayfield.

    The Forum, headquarters for South Northamptonshire Council, external in Towcester and home of Northamptonshire County Council, external’s library, registrars and adult learning services, has been shortlisted in the Corporate Workplace category.  

    Previous winners have included the redevelopment of the BBC’s Broadcasting House and Birmingham City Council offices.

  17. Saints' Tom Wood: Eddie Jones may be 'trying to provoke a reaction'published at 14:30

    Northampton Saints flanker Tom Wood says England coach Eddie Jones called him to explain his reasons for leaving him out of the Six Nations squad.

    Wood was a regular part of the England set-up throughout Stuart Lancaster's spell as head coach, but was left out by Jones when the latest squad was announced on Monday.

    Wood said he was "not quite sure about" some of Jones' reasoning, adding: "He questioned a few things about my game which I thought were a bit back to front - I don't know if he was trying to provoke a reaction."
