  1. Academy chain which runs two Daventry school criticised by Ofstedpublished at 12:29 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2016

    Schools inspector Ofsted has published the outcome of a focused inspection of the academy chain, E-ACT, half of which, they say, are not providing a good standard of education. The letter, which contain several criticisms, external, says standards in the secondary academies are too low.

    E-ACT runs the Parker E-ACT Academy in Daventry, which following an inspection in December was removed from special measures and judged to require improvement.

    The chain also runs DSLV E-ACT Academy in Daventry, which was not inspected in December but was rated Inadequate - serious weaknesses - in June 2015.

    E-ACT said it has radically overhauled how it's run.

    Northamptonshire Police have said they have had a "good response" following last night's appeal for information about the murder of David Brickwood in Northampton on BBC's Crimewatch programme.

    Detective Chief Inspector Mick Graham said officers would be "progressing these enquiries," but urged anyone else with information to come forward.

    The B569 Station Road in Knuston near Irchester, which had been closed for most of the morning due to a collision between a car and a motorbike and subsequent investigation work, has now re-opened.

    As part of Crimewatch's appeal into the murder of David Brickwood in Northampton, footage was shown of some people police would like to trace.

    A man and a woman were seen walking towards the scene at 23:56. Later two men can been seen walking away from the scene at midnight.

    Before the attack, a group of men were seen by a witness arguing with another group outside Mr Brickwood's house.

    The government has announced it will give Northamptonshire County Council an extra £1.7m each year for the next two years.

    Greg Clark, the communities secretary, made the announcement last night.

    In the coming days the authority will release revised plans to cut around £80m in the next financial year.

    A conference aimed at helping schools to tackle homophobic and transphobic bullying is being held at the Corby Cube today.

    It follows a survey from the charity, Stonewall, which shows more than half of lesbian gay and bisexual young people have experienced bullying. It also suggests 27% of transgender young people have tried to kill themselves.

  8. Man charged with attempted murder in Northamptonpublished at 09:48 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2016

    A 50-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder following an incident in Portland Place, Northampton.

    He has also been charged with two counts of making threats to kill.

    A 63-year-old woman was assaulted in an incident in Portland Place, Wellingborough Road, just before midnight on Sunday. She remains in hospital with serious injuries.

    The man will appear at Northampton Magistrates’ Court this morning.

    Last night, on BBC One's Crimewatch, police made an appeal for more information about the murder of David Brickwood, 74, in Northampton in September last year.

    They have released this CCTV footage of two Ford Focus cars seen travelling to the area of Mr Brickwood’s house just before the murder and leaving quickly straight after the attack.

    One is a light colour and the other is dark.

  14. No further treatment need for youths in 'spray attack'published at 08:16 Greenwich Mean Time 9 February 2016

    Yesterday evening, a group of 10 young people were sprayed with what police say was an alkaline based irritant at the Spring Boroughs youth club in Tower Street, Northampton.

    Three people were ‘dry-decontaminated’ and all attended Northampton Hospital. They have since been discharged, and didn't require any further treatment.

    Although a 19-year-old man has been arrested, police say there were four people involved in the attack. The suspects left the scene in a small black vehicle.

    A group of 10 young people were sprayed in the face with an unidentified substance last night.

    Police were called to the Spring Boroughs youth club in Tower Street, Northampton, at 20:10 where the group had been exposed to the substance and were complaining of irritation to their eyes and faces.

    It is believed the four offenders used an alkaline based irritant, which quickly evaporated once sprayed.

    A 19-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of actual bodily harm.
