    The plan to remove free car parking passes from borough councillors in Kettering that we mentioned yesterday... has been defeated.

    The motion was put forward by Labour's Clark Mitchell who'd argued the passes mean some councillors don't know the true cost of parking in the town, which is most expensive in the county for a two to three hour stay.

  2. Police say if 'Zippy' e-fit helps catch offender it has 'done its job'published at 10:55

    Northamptonshire Police have said they are "glad" that their e-fit, which has been ridiculed on Facebook, external, is "grabbing peoples' attention".

    The force say the distraction burglary on Saturday, external of a 95-year-old in Banbury Lane, Rothersthorpe, was "a despicable crime against a vulnerable, elderly lady" and they say that "if the e-fit helps jog somebody's memory and this goes on to help catch the offender then it's done its job".

    People have likened the man featured in the e-fit, external to the 1970s TV puppet Zippy, the Joker from the Batman comic series and a melon.

    Monty Panesar had another lengthy bowl at Wantage Road yesterday as Northamptonshire drew with Leicestershire in the second eleven championship.

    Panesar sent down 17 overs for just 28 runs as the visitors battled to safety at 178 for 4 after Northamptonshire has earlier declared on 499-9.

    Two Northamptonshire companies have been given the Queen's Award for Enterprise, external to celebrates the Queen's 90th Birthday.

    They're Red Arch Manufacturing in Daventry and Cheaney's Shoes in Desborough (pictured).

    The joint-managing-director of Cheaney's William Church says turnover has more than doubled and exports have trebled since a management buy-out in 2009.

    Planning permission has been granted for a 12-screen cinema at Rushden Lakes, which will also include a bowling alley, indoor climbing structure, cycle hire and restaurants.

    This leisure complex replaces the proposed garden centre, and the developer LBX properties say that it'll open a few months after the shopping development which should be completed next Spring.
