Northampton Crown Court heard a dog that caused injuries resulting in six-month-old Molly-Mae Wotherspoon's death was "jealous" and was "targetting" the baby.
The illegal pitball, named Bruiser, was described by a vet as the most aggressive they had ever seen. The animal could be head barking during the 999 call, according to Prosector James Howes.
He also said the dog's cage was flimsy and not big enough, and that it "lacked stimulation and control".
Molly-Mae's mother Claire Riley, 23, of Southfields in Northampton, pleaded guilty to owning the dog and will be sentenced next month.

I was at Northampton Crown Court today, where Claire Riley - the mother of the six-month-old who was killed by a banned breed of dog - pleaded guilty to owning the animal.
She was flanked by men who were minding her and also shielding her from the cameras. When we asked her for a comment, one of the men turned on us calling us "low life".
Riley, 23, from Southfields in Northampton, today changed her plea to guilty to the charge of owning the dog and will be sentenced next month.
The Vicar of Finedon just can't help but feel the beat.
But when it's former Communard Richard Coles that's perhaps not a surprise...

The land slip near the Corby Tunnel , externalhas caused disruption on trains travelling north from Corby and some coming through the station towards London.
Although this picture is not very dramatic, Network Rail assures us it would be if they allowed trains to run over it.

Northampton Town have appointed Paul Wilkinson as the club's new assistant manager.
Wilkinson has worked in coaching roles with Leeds United, Grimsby Town, Cardiff City and Norwich City, as well as being assistant manager at Sheffield Wednesday.
The 51-year-old had an 18 year playing career, which ended in 2000. He made over 650 senior appearances, scoring more than 150 goals and including a brief spell at Sixfields.

James Shayler, 50, was arrested and jailed in 1998. Along with many other fans, he was expelled from France, but this time UEFA have warned it is the England football team which faces being booted out of the tournament.

The scheme which helps disabled people in Northampton with wheelchairs and scooters has been under threat after a cut in its funding.
Today, the Northants Herald & Post is reporting there are calls for Northampton Borough Council to sell the number plate which adorns the car for the town's mayor, external to help fund the service.

Claire Riley, 23, from Southfields in Northampton, pleaded guilty today at Northampton Crown Court to being the owner of a dog which caused injury resulting in death while dangerously out of control.
Last week, Susan Aucott, 55, from Alfred Street in Northampton pleaded guilty to being in charge of the dog.
Molly-Mae Wotherspoon died at a house in Daventry in October 2014 after being attacked by the American pit bull called Bruiser.

The mother of a six month old girl killed by a banned breed of dog has pleaded guilty to being the owner of a dangerously out of control dog which caused injury, resulting in death.
At Northampton Crown Court today, Claire Riley, 23, from Southfields in Northampton, changed her plea from not guilty.
Her daughter, Molly-Mae Wotherspoon, died on 3 October 2014, following the dog attack at her mother's former home in Morning Star Road, Daventry.
She was rushed to hospital where she died from severe blood loss from head wounds. The dog was put down at the scene.
Last Wednesday, Molly-Mae's grandmother Susan Aucott, 55, from Alfred Street in Northampton, pleaded guilty to being in charge of the dog.
