  1. Thieves steal Queen's 90th birthday display in Thrapstonpublished at 11:55 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    People in Thrapston spent weeks knitting and making a display for a party in the park to celebrate the Queen's 90th birthday.

    However, many of the items have been stolen from the Thrapston Peace Park.

    They are similar to the items pictured below, which remain by the church.

    The council say the items were stolen between midnight and 07:00 on Sunday, and have asked anyone with information to contact them, external.

    The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for rain Northamptonshire.

    They say scattered heavy thundery showers are expected to develop, and will once again lead to slow-moving downpours.

    The warning is in force from 12:00 until 21:00, external with possible localised flooding and disruption to travel predicted.

    The Burton Latimer golfer's final round of 68 left her nine shots off the winner Brooke Henderson of Canada, who beat Lydia Ko in a play-off.

  4. Man dies after crash on A45 yesterdaypublished at 10:45 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    A 29-year-old man has died after a crash yesterday morning at around 10:00.

    He was driving a silver Vauxhall Vectra on the A45 westbound when his vehicle left the dual carriageway at the Great Billing junction. It then left the slip road and collided with a tree on the grass verge, ending up on its side.

    The driver died at the scene and police are appealing for witnesses, external.

    Lewis Hamilton dedicated his victory in the Canadian Grand Prix to the late Muhammad Ali.

    The world champion referenced one of the former heavyweight champion's famous quotes on his slowing down lap, saying: "Float like a butterfly; sting like a bee."

    He added later: "Ali was someone who inspired me so much throughout my life.

    "Obviously he passed away recently so I'd love to be able to dedicate this to him and his family."

    Brackley-based Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton won the Canadian Grand Prix at the weekend, after a tense strategic battle with Sebastian Vettel's revived Ferrari.

    Vettel looked in control after taking the lead from third on the grid with a blistering start.

    But Ferrari surrendered the lead by pitting during a caution period, and Hamilton - doing one pit stop to Vettel's two - controlled the race. He cut his title deficit to team-mate Nico Rosberg, who was fifth, to nine points.

    Morcea Walker, from the Northampton Carnival Arts Consortium, told BBC Radio Northampton there were problems with the parade route on Saturday from Northampton's Racecourse through the town centre.

    However, she said they were "pleased" with the event and the crowds were certainly entertained...

  8. Organiser hails Northampton's 'biggest' carnivalpublished at 09:50 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    This year's Northampton Carnival has been the biggest ever, according to the organisers.

    A total of 42 groups from Northampton and other towns and cities took part in the event despite delays with the parade setting from the Racecourse.

  10. East Midlands trains say Corby line could be closed all daypublished at 09:24 British Summer Time 13 June 2016

    A landslip at Corby Tunnel between Oakham and Corby has closed the line.

    East Midlands Trains say it is not expecting the line to re-open today and once Network Rail, whose engineers are on site, are able to assess the extent of the damage there will be an update on how long the line will be closed for.

    Given yesterday's downpours, only two overs were possible at the County Ground as Northamptonshire's One-Day Cup with Leicestershire was abandoned as a no-result.

    Only 12 balls were bowled as the hosts reached 12-0, with Josh Cobb unbeaten on three and Adam Rossington on five not out.

    Both sides took a point from the game, with Northants next travelling to Yorkshire tomorrow.

    There is a landslip at Corby Tunnel between Oakham and Corby, disrupting East Midlands trains on the Corby to London St Pancras route.

    At present Network Rail are on site and assessing the damage. The line is currently closed between Oakham and Corby.

    All of the East Midlands trains on the route cannot run in both directions.

    George North has been ruled out of Wales' tour of New Zealand after suffering a significant hamstring tear in his side's 39-21 loss to the All Blacks on Saturday.

    The British and Irish Lions wing, 24, suffered the injury tackling Waisake Naholo late on at Eden Park, where Wales led with 18 minutes remaining.

    "It's unfortunate for him and it's a big loss for us as well. It's a significant tear. We're not sure whether he needs an operation," said Wales coach Warren Gatland.

    Speaking after England's 39-28 win over Australia in Brisbane on Saturday, Northampton Saints hooker and England captain Dylan Hartley said he was "really proud" his team could "etch their names in history".

    But he warned they need to "keep our feet on the ground - our egos in check".

    However, it was not such a great day for Hartley's Saints team-mate, centre Luther Burrell, who was taken off after just 29 minutes - a move coach Eddie Jones confirmed was for tactical reasons.
