    The Sun

As Andrea Leadsom gets some good news in the form of an endorsement from Boris Johnson, she might not want to read what The Sun says about her performance at the Conservative hustings.

According to Westminster correspondent Harry Cole, , externala number of MPs thought she "crashed and burned".

He quotes one as saying: “She was rambling, ended up talking about the frontal cortex of a baby’s brain.

"This was meant to be an application to be the next PM not a childhood development officer”.

Another MP added: “She’s not my candidate, but she went down like a cup of cold sick.

“She lost the room. People we’re talking to each other and playing on their iPads. She was very rambling.”

  12. Education secretary criticises Leadsom for lack of experiencepublished at 09:16 British Summer Time 5 July 2016

    Pete Cooper
    BBC Local Live

Nicky Morgan has launched an attack on Tory leadership race contender Andrea Leadsom, questioning her backers and level of experience.

The education secretary, who is backing Michael Gove, said Mrs Leadsom, MP for South Northamptonshire, had "not been a cabinet minister" and had "not been a minister for that long".

    Nicky Morgan

"There are a lot of questions about who she's got backing her and her experience," she said.

She went on to say there was a mood in the party for "two cabinet heavyweights" to make the final slate - pointing to Theresa May and Mr Gove.

  14. Who might emerge ahead as MPs vote in the Tory leadership race?published at 08:35 British Summer Time 5 July 2016

    Norman Smith
    Assistant political editor

The Conservative leadership election could end up as a straightforward tussle between Theresa May and Michael Gove.

However, Mr Gove could be damaged by his act of fratricide against Boris Johnson, and I detect some momentum building behind Andrea Leadsom.

Mrs Leadsom is a candidate who hasn't bruised a lot of egos in the past and doesn't come with as much political baggage as some of the others. She has pitched herself as the change candidate and the Tory radical candidate.

A series of secret ballots will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 5 July, until the list is whittled down to two candidates, who will then go forward to a vote of the entire Conservative membership.

If the final battle is between Mrs May and Mrs Leadsom, that means that one of them will become the UK's second female prime minister.

  15. Leadsom has 'zap, drive and determination' says Boris Johnsonpublished at 08:25 British Summer Time 5 July 2016

In a post on his Facebook page, external, Mr Johnson says: "She has a better understanding of finance than almost anyone else in parliament.

"She has considerable experience of government. She is level-headed, kind, trustworthy, approachable and the possessor of a good sense of humour."
