    It should stay dry overnight but rather cloudy in light to moderate winds with temperatures 14-16C (57-61F).

    Tomorrow will be a dry day with any early cloudy thinning and breaking to bring long spells of sunshine. Turning cloudy from the west later in the day with highs of 25-27C (77-81F).

  3. Saints lock Courtney Lawes says he's confident his ankle surgery will 'pay dividends'published at 17:36 British Summer Time 11 August 2016

    To a different type of agility.... and Courtney Lawes, who's been struggling with an ankle injury for the last three years, has told the BBC that an operation carried out during the summer break seems to have been a success.

    He damaged his foot during a Six Nations game against Scotland and it's been troubling him ever since. Previous attempts to rectify the problem have not been completely successful.

    He's also been fighting pain in his shoulder.  He says he's been spending the break getting his body back "into really good nick".

    Northampton Saints have their first pre-season match this weekend - they're in France to face Castres on Saturday afternoon.

    When Sam Leakey, from Wellingborough, first saw Zola his owner was trying to sell him on the street for £20.

    She rescued him, made sure he wasn't lost or stolen and then adopted him. Sam hasn't looked back.

    Over the next few days, Zola will be competing alongside nearly 3,000 other dogs in the world's biggest agility festival of its kind at Rockingham Castle near Corby.

    More than 200 hundred classes will be judged in 16 showrings.

  5. Workers in Northampton urged to leave their cars at home to tackle pollutionpublished at 17:00

    Politicians in Northampton say workers should help tackle pollution by cycling or walking to work.

    Northampton Borough Council's latest strategy, external to cut pollutants in the worst-affected parts of the borough stops short of a ban on high-emission vehicles.

    But it says people should be encouraged to buy cleaner vehicles or find alternatives ways of getting to work.

    I challenged a group of staff at Spacevac, external on the Rothersthorpe Industrial Estate to leave their cars in the garage this morning.  

    Billy accepted the challenge and told me that his four-mile journey normally takes about 15 minutes by car but it took a "horrifying" 55 minutes on foot this morning.

    Suzanne planned to get to work by bus, but discovered that it would have involved a 05:00 start and a three-hour journey on three different vehicles.

    Ryan told me that he couldn't use a bus because he drove a company van to make deliveries, so it wasn't possible to use an alternative means of transport.

    My experiment suggested that, for many people, the car is the only practical method of getting to work.

  6. Northampton prisoner found hanging in Milton Keynes prison cellpublished at 16:30

    An inquest has been opened at Milton Keynes Coroners' Court into the death of Daniel Dunkley, 35, from Northampton.

    He was found hanging in a prison cell last month and died in hospital on 2 August. The hearing has been adjourned until next April.

  11. Sport: Cobblers to face Premiership team in League Cuppublished at 12:35

    The draw's been made for the second round of the League Cup and Northampton Town will face West Bromwich Albion.

    The game will be played at Sixfields during the week commencing 22 August.

    The Cobblers beat Barnsley 2-1 in the first round on Tuesday night.

  12. Perseid meteors: Just look up for a spectacular show tonightpublished at 12:00

    Astronomers in Northamptonshire are predicting a bumper show of shooting stars tonight.

    The annual Perseid meteor shower is due to take place as the Earth passes through a debris field left by the Swift-Tuttle comet.

    Experts say this year's display could be twice or three times as spectacular as usual.

    Dusko Novakovic, from the Northamptonshire Natural History Society, says there's no need for special equipment to see the phenomenon - all you need is something to sit on and a way of keeping warm.

  13. Students say 'inadequate' college is 'too relaxed'published at 11:00 British Summer Time 11 August 2016

    Students have told the BBC that teaching at Tresham College, which has campuses in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough, is not strict enough and "they wouldn't chase you up" if you didn't do enough work.

    The latest report, external from Ofsted inspectors has rated the college as inadequate, citing concerns about management and teaching.

    The principal says some of the judgements are unfair and he plans to challenge them.

    Heather and Siona, who are studying A-Levels at the institution, told BBC Radio Northampton they enjoy the "comfortable environment" at the college, but they need more support and communications from their teachers.

  15. Decision to spend £500k chasing Cobblers' £10m loan challengedpublished at 10:00

    Opposition politicians in Northampton have secured a review into the decision to spend up to £500,000 to recover a multi-million pound loan to Northampton Town Football Club.

    The money was supposed to fund a stadium redevelopment project but it's thought it may have been used to finance other schemes.

    A criminal inquiry is already under way into "alleged financial irregularities".

    Northampton Borough Council's cabinet decided to transfer up to £500,000 from reserves to pay professional fees connected with the recovery of the loan money.

    However, a panel will meet tonight to reconsider that decision amid concerns that councillors didn't have enough information when they discussed it.

    The Northampton Borough councillor responsible for the environment has defended the authority's plans to tackle air pollution in the town.

    The council's new draft strategy, external rejects a ban on higher-polluting vehicles in part of Northampton but says it will encourage the use of low-emission vehicles, as well as walking and cycling.

    Alan Botwood says they take the issue very seriously but there are practical problems when it comes to dealing with it: "With any type of low-emission strategy you've got to rely on a lot of other people to work with you," he said.

    A Northamptonshire town will be having its first ever Pride event, external this weekend. 

    Wellingborough’s LGBT Alliance has organised the Pride picnic which will be taking place from midday until 16:00 at the Castle Fields park in the town.

  18. Council's £500k to chase Cobblers cash under scrutinypublished at 08:35 British Summer Time 11 August 2016

    Northampton Borough Council's decision to set aside £500,000 to attempt to recover the £10.25m it loaned to Northampton Town FC will be looked at again tonight.

    The ruling Conservatives approved taking the money from reserves last month but Labour have forced a scrutiny panel to consider the issue. 

    The panel could decide to go along with the decision or ask for it to be re-examined.

    A decision on plans for a motocross circuit near the village of Yelvertoft has been deferred. 

    Daventry District Council's planning committee met last night and members said they wanted to see the results of an independent noise assessment.

    They also said they would like to visit the site themselves.

    People living nearby have claimed their village's way of life would be threatened by the development.
