    The Silverstone Classic gets under way today with up to 100,000 spectators expected at the south Northamptonshire circuit.

    The annual event features hundreds of cars over the three days which - organisers claim - is the biggest classic car racing event anywhere in the world...

    Turweston Aerodrome on the Buckinghamshire-Northamptonshire border remains closed today following a light aircraft crash yesterday morning in which the pilot was killed.

    The manager of the air tower has said on Facebook the airfield will be closed until Saturday morning.  

    Accident investigators are trying to determine the cause of the crash.

  3. India Chipchase: Trial of man accused of rape and murder continues todaypublished at 10:12 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    The trial of the man accused of raping and murdering 20-year-old India Chipchase continues today.

    The prosecution will continue their cross-examination of Edward Tenniswood, 52, of Stanley Road of Northampton.

    Yesterday Mr Tenniswood told a jury his "over-eagerness" to satisfy Miss Chipchase in bed caused her death.

    He denies all the charges, and we'll bring in you what happens in Birmingham Crown Court later.

    Charley Hull, playing on her home course, is tied 11th on three under par after the first round of the Women's British Open at Woburn.

    Hull is the leading home player but she is seven shots off the lead after South Korea's Mirim Lee shot a course-record 10-under-par 62.

  6. Lib Dems group leader 'delighted' police investigating donations to MP's election fundpublished at 08:48 British Summer Time 29 July 2016

    Hidden payments totalling £30,000 to David Mackintosh's general election campaign are being investigated by the police.

    Mr Mackintosh, ex-leader of Northampton Borough Council, welcomed the investigation and "will co-operate fully with police".

    The Conservative Party has told the BBC it has "no comment" on the investigation.

    The leader of the Lib Dems on the borough council told me she is "delighted" the investigation is taking place.

    Labour is calling for a by-election in Northampton South after it was revealed yesterday that donations to the general election fund of the constituency's MP, Conservative David Mackintosh, are being investigated by police.

    It follows a BBC investigation into donations of £30,000 made to the Northampton South Conservative Association.

    Mr Mackintosh has said he'd "welcome" any investigation and would "co-operate fully", if asked.
