    After a chilly start, Tuesday will be fine and dry with good spells of sunshine. Thicker cloud could produce a few showers, but many places will remain dry.

    Captain Alex Wakely and all-rounder Steven Crook are back in the Northamptonshire squad to face Middlesex in the T20 Blast quarter-final against Middlesex tomorrow, after missing the county championship win over Glamorgan.

    Batsman Richard Levi (pictured) is also in squad after missing since the T20 game in Leeds against Yorkshire, along with Sri Lankan all-rounder Seekuge Prasanna.

    A 32-year-old man was assaulted with a piece of wood, causing significant facial injuries, as he walked home from a night out in Willow Brook Road, Corby on Sunday.

    The victim was approached by a man who had been riding a bike, and after the assault he returned to his bike and rode off in the direction of Corby town centre.

    The incident took place between about 03:00 and 03.20.

    Police have appealed for witnesses and posted a description of the offender on their website, external.

  4. Fighting dogs being trained in children’s playground in Corbypublished at 16:19 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    "The owners of fighting dogs are being trained using pieces of children’s play equipment on the Danesholme estate," reports the newspaper.

    Children’s play equipment installed just a few months ago, external at the Stavanger Close park on the town’s Danesholme estate had been damaged by people using it to strengthen their dog’s jaws, according to a report submitted to Corby councillors last week.

    Academics from Sheffield University hope to discover when bones in Rothwell in the bone crypt under the parish church were alive.

    Dr Lizzie Craig-Atkins from the university has been given permission by the Church of England to take fragments of the bones and have them radio-carbon dated.

  7. Insomniac at hospital now sleeping properly following fitness challengepublished at 14:19 British Summer Time 8 August 2016

    A worker at Kettering General Hospital says taking part in a work-based fitness programme has "changed his life".

    Security manager James Donnolly is currently the top UK performer in the Global Corporate Fitness Challenge, external.

    He lost 20lbs (9kg) since he started the challenge, and says he averages 88,000 steps a day, compared to the normal amount a person walks, which is 15,000.

    Staff at Kettering General Hospital are being asked to set a good example by getting fit, especially through walking more.

    The hospital is taking part in the Global Corporate Fitness Challenge, external and has two of the top-performing British teams.

    Mark Smith from the hospital said being healthy "starts with us" and if the staff can "demonstrate the behaviour you want others to follow" then they can become role models for patients.

    Rothwell's bone crypt may have been "well used" according to Dr Jenny Crangell from Sheffield University.

    Bones, which have been stored under Rothwell Parish Church, have been radio carbon-dated and the results are being analysed.

    It's known the crypt dates from the 13th Century, but it's not clear when the thousands of skulls and thigh bones were placed there.

    Northampton Town have signed Barnsley defender Lewin Nyatanga on a season-long loan.

    The 27-year-old started his career at Derby Couty, playing the Premier League with the Rams, and has played over 100 games for Bristol City and Barnsley.

    He has also played 34 times for Wales.

    He'll be unavailable for the Cobblers against his parent club in the EFL Cup tomorrow.

    A Corby woman has been turned into a character in a musical which is being performed in Los Angeles.

    Michelle Morgan (pictured) has written a number of books about Marilyn Monroe and the play is based on part of her research.

    Seamer Ben Sanderson destroyed Glamorgan with a career-best 7-22 as Northants cruised to a crushing 251-run victory at St Helen's.

    Sanderson proved unplayable with a fine display of swing bowling to earn the visitors their first Championship win of the season.

    Sanderson also picked up 10 wickets in a match for the first time.

    Northamptonshire are back in action tomorrow in the T20 Blast quarter-final against Middlesex.

    Set 347 to win, Glamorgan slipped to 12-4 and never showed the application to survive as they were all out for 95.

    Rob Page, Northampton Town manager, said that he's learnt from his season with Port Vale in League One last season that he has to be "adaptable".

    Northampton Town drew their League One opener with Fleetwood Town 1-all and Page said: "We’ve got to be adaptable and you can’t only have one idea of how you want to play, so we might change it again for Tuesday."

    The Cobblers travel to Barnsley tomorrow for the EFL Cup and Page added that there were "a lot of tired bodies" following the sides first competitive game.

    The Cobblers started life back in the third tier with a draw

    They took just nine minutes to open their account in League One when David Buchanan's shot was only partially cleared, Alex Revell's effort hit the post and the ball bounced into the net off the diving Fleetwood Town goalkeeper Chris Neal.

    But Fleetwood were back on level terms seven minutes into the second half when the Cobblers failed to deal with Conor McLaughlin's cross and Victor Nirennold stole in at the far post to score.
