A new report from Oxford Economics says Northampton has a key role to play as part of a "major growth corridor" spanning the south midlands and the east of England.

It follows a directive from former chancellor, George Osborne, to the National Infrastructure Commission to examine ways to maximise the area's potential.

It spans from Oxford to Milton Keynes then across to Cambridge. In the report, Northampton is described as having "the potential to play a significant role in ensuring that the growth corridor achieves its potential''.

  13. 'Road to nowhere' finally going somewhere?published at 12:16 British Summer Time 27 September 2016

It's been known as the "road to nowhere" for ages - but now it could finally have a purpose.

I'm on about the new road just to the west of Northampton that runs north from the A4500, near Harpole, for all of about 200m... and then just stops.

But now plans are being put forward that could see it connect up with the Sandy Lane relief road, which runs from Harlestone to Duston.

This is because of plans for 1,900 houses to be built between Upton and Harpole, that would include the road being completed.

Sonja Roberts from the Harpole Action Team, says people in the village aren't happy, saying the homes would effectively join the village to Northampton.
