    BBC Local Live

As MPs prepare to vote on legislation that would give the government the go-ahead to trigger Article 50 and begin the formal process of leaving the EU, the Conservative MP for Northampton South says it's time to "draw a line" under the referendum arguments.

David Mackintosh, who backed Remain, said: "This is not the time for further division, the days of remain or Brexit are over.

"It is clear that we are leaving the European Union and it's crucial in the months and years ahead we work together to get the best deal we can for this country, and to focus on an international global outlook."

The bill is expected to pass its first test despite opposition from the SNP, the Liberal Democrats and some pro-Remain Labour MPs.

Next week, opposition parties will try to push through a series of amendments as the bill undergoes detailed scrutiny.

  13. Amateur dramatic society loses £500 in Castle Theate adminstrationpublished at 17:21 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Sarah Foster
    BBC Radio Northampton

The head of an amateur dramatic society in Wellingborough says they are still feeling effects of the closure of the Castle Theatre.

The venue closed in June last year, but the council re-opened in on an interim basis while they searched for someone to take it over.

Wellingborough Co-operative Amateur Dramatic Society lost £500 after the theatre went into administration and are relying on their latest play to keep them going.

Jane Cox from the society said their show Dead Guilty, which opens on Thursday, is "make or break".

The show is being put on at Wellingborough Museum because they say it is "more affordable" than the Castle.

  15. Bone and Umunna in Trump pow-wowpublished at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Norman Smith
    Assistant political editor

Chuka Umunna and Peter Bone have had a right pow-wow on the BBC News Channel about the Trump state visit.

Mr Umunna, the Labour MP for Streatham, says it would be "outrageous" for the US President to be asked to address the Houses of Parliament, saying he had "peddled hate, misogyny, racism and Islamaphobia" during the presidential campaign and appeared now to be governing in the same way.

But Mr Bone, the Conservative MP for Wellingborough, says the President is the duly elected leader of the UK's oldest and strongest ally and must be allowed to come.

    Peter Bone and Chucka Umunna

Mr Bone asks his counterpart what he was doing when the Chinese President Xi Jinping visited the UK in 2014 - calling into question China's human rights record.

"Are you really defending Chinese human rights on this programme," he asks his Labour counterpart.

Mr Umunna insists "he wasn't happy with the Chinese state visit" but, on balance, he would rather welcome the Chinese leader than Mr Trump.

  17. King's College to have the first Collyweston slatepublished at 15:29 Greenwich Mean Time 31 January 2017

    Martin Borley
    BBC Radio Northampton

Russell Osborn, a consultant for King's College, Cambridge which will be the first to use the newly excavated slate, told me that they will start using the stone in June 2018.

King's have helped finance the mine, in Collyweston, to ensure they were able to have access to the first supply.

    Russell Osborn

Mr Osborn said that heritage buildings such as King's College need heritage materials when repairs are made.

Previously, they would use reclaimed slate from demolition projects but he explained "that is finite so a new source was needed".

    Martin Borley
    BBC Radio Northampton

A mine is has produced its first slate after a 40-year wait, which its owner described as "fantastic".

Nigel Smith, pictured with a newly excavated piece of Collyweston Slate, told me that he was rather emotional and that it was a "momentous day".

    Nigel Smith

Collyweston slate, named after the Northamptonshire village in which it is produced, has been used on illustrious buildings for more than 600 years - and the first fruits of the new supply will be heading to Cambridge.

Mr Smith said: "You wouldn't believe what hard work has gone in to get to this point."

After mining, the slate will be used in historic buildings.

Cobblers defender Gaby Zakuani may feature on Saturday at Walsall after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, but boss Justin Edinburgh told me it "might be too soon".

Zakuani, 30, was injured for Democratic Republic of Congo's quarter-final on Sunday, which they lost 2-1 to Ghana.
