Police praise 'virtually crime-free' British GP weekend at Silverstonepublished at 10:29 British Summer Time 17 July 2017
Northamptonshire Police has thanked spectators at the British Grand Prix after what it described as a "virtually crime-free" weekend.
In all there were 13 crimes recorded at the event (compared with 12 in 2016) from Thursday to Sunday, with seven arrests made.
It's estimated more than 300,000 people attended the Silverstone circuit over the weekend.
Away from the track, police say their operation also included patrolling campsites and the surrounding road network.

"This has been a really successful operation and all the planning that has gone into this has paid off," said Supt Chris Hillery.
"I'd like to thank all my officers who have helped make this a safe and enjoyable weekend and thanks to the racegoers themselves - the vast majority of whom have been extremely understanding of some of the slight additional delays brought on by the raised security.
"They made up a brilliant crowd and created a great atmosphere."
Officers from Northamptonshire were supported by colleagues from Thames Valley, Hampshire, Leicestershire, West Midlands, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire forces.
The East Midlands Ambulance Service (EMAS), Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service and the Army also helped out.
