  1. Landlord suffered 'prolonged and painful death' say policepublished at 12:35

    Police have described the death of a Nottingham landlord as one of the most barbaric murders they've ever investigated.

    Sekou Soumare, 56, admitted starting the fire in March.

    Nottingham Crown Court heard he failed to tell emergency crews there was someone inside the flat in Derby Grove.

    Since the River Trent burst its banks 15 years ago, £45m has been spent on flood defences.

    Melanie Shoreson was forced to leave her home in Attenborough for six months after the deluge.

    She said: "There were people far worse off, but we had to get on with our lives and hope they would do something about the river."

    This week in 2000 Nottingham was under quite a lot of water.

    Sarah Anna Windibank remembers her exams being postponed because parts of the school flooded.

    She wrote on Facebook, external: "I remember this so well, mock GCSEs were cancelled due to the boiler room at school flooding and it not being safe as the school was on the river. Me and my friend were stood in the background of the East Midlands lunch time news report when we got the message that school had cancelled the exams and was closing."

    A spokesman for NET has been in touch and told us the strong winds and rain last night led to debris being blown onto the tracks.

    As a result they had to get "sweepers" out to clear it this morning and that led to "minor delays".

    Carly Armstrong wrote: "I remember this so well when the village I lived in farndon was flooded water was above wellies."

    Sarah Cusak, who lived nearby, said: "I lived on marsh lane in farndon at the time and we had evacuation notices, luckily we didn't have to evacuate but it got so bad that they were warning everyone. And I'm sure at one point it was actually cut off coz roads were flooded so bad you couldn't get in or out of the village."

    Plans for an elected mayor for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire have hit a stumbling block.

    Councillors in Erewash have expressed serious concerns about the offer on the table from the government and it's understood South Derbyshire District Council is also sceptical.

    A unanimous agreement is needed from all of the local authorities before a devolution deal can be put in place, so a decision on when it could happen could now be delayed.

    The tram delays have got a lot of you confused this morning.

    On NET's Facebook page, external, Amanda Guest, wrote: "The weather?? It was just rain wasn't it... not ten foot of snow... seems to be loads of delays since opening phase 2."

    We've talked a lot about the prospect of a shared elected mayor between Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire - now it looks like a decision on whether it will happen has been delayed.

    An announcement was expected in the next fortnight but last night councillors in Erewash, Derbyshire, expressed concerns about the government's deal.

    We'll bring you more on this throughout the day.
