Six men, including five from the same family, were jailed earlier this week for conspiracy to steal railway cable.
The gang were responsible for more than 35 thefts across Nottingham, Lincolnshire, Leicestershire and Yorkshire over 11 months in 2013.
Lincoln Crown Court heard how the gang targeted three major rail improvement projects being delivered by Network Rail, and stole signalling cable. They then stripped the cabling and sold the copper inside.

Remember the tent village on Cliff Road? Well the city council is now seeking a possession order which could see bailiffs move in to clear the tents next week.
“Alongside this, we have served notice on the site today for a closure order and intend to provide evidence to court on Friday of anti-social behaviour on the site unacceptably affecting local residents," a spokesman for the authority said.
If granted, the order could be enforced the same day, allowing the site to be cleared by the police.
The council maintains that "the vast majority of people" at the camp are not homeless and not from Nottingham.

It took Gedling Borough Council almost 10 months to trace the man who dumped 14 tyres in a ditch in Mapperley.
And when the authority's neighbourhood warden finally caught up with Paul Henry, he claimed it was his "identical twin" who was responsible.
The 52-year-old even tried to evade conviction by giving old addresses but the wardens persevered, working with the Police and Department of Work and Pensions to help find Mr Henry and serve him the court papers.
He was convicted following the testimony of a member of the public who saw him throwing black items being out of the back of the van
Leader of the council John Clarke said; “This is a great example of a member of the public standing up against fly tippers."

More from Nottingham Crown Court today, where a father and his two sons are on trial for the murders of two teenagers and a baby in a flat fire.
Simon Eyre, 24, denies ever being at the scene of the fire in Langley Mill in June.

Six-month-old Ruby-Grace Gaunt was found dead still "partially held in her mother's arms", the jury's been told.
Also on trial are Eyre's brother Anthony, 22, and father Peter, 44, all from Sandiacre.

The county council said it's investigating how a newly married couple and their 50 guests got locked in Newark Castle.
Jeanette Hall, registration area manager, apologised after Lee and Drilona Perry were trapped inside in the dark and rain for an hour on Saturday.
“Newark and Sherwood District Council lock these gates at around dusk and unfortunately we should have alerted the couple to the possibility that the gates may be locked when they went into the grounds," she said.
"The couple have not contacted us as yet but we will be getting in contact with them to investigate further."

A flytipper who left these 14 tyres in a ditch in Mapperley claimed his identical twin was responsible.
Paul Henry, from Old Basford, was seen dumping the tyres on Valentine's Day last year in the layby.
"We’ve had some excuses on our rounds but this was the first time someone had tried to say they were their own twin," said Gelding Borough Council's neighbourhood warden Rachael Bryant.
Henry was convicted after a trial at Nottingham Magistrates' Court and ordered to wear an electronic tag and comply with a curfew order for eight weeks, as well as paying £460 prosecution costs, £250 costs for the clean-up and a £60 victim surcharge.

I've been speaking to Nottinghamshire County Council about the locked in wedding party at Newark Castle.
They're working on an official statement for us but a spokesman has told me the castle gates were always closed at dusk at this time of year.
He said register staff had "made a mistake" and they were now trying to get in touch with the couple to apologise to them properly.
