    Looking at the menus school dinners have definitely changed since my school days.

    It's all a bit upmarket now with the likes of turkey risotto and venison pie on offer.

    Latest figures , externalshow the number of school meals served in Nottinghamshire has risen by 10%. 

    This could be because children in reception, Year 1 and Year 2 automatically qualify for free school meals but the county council's figures show that not all children who qualify for these are taking up the offer.

    Richard Waldron, headmaster at James Peacock Infant and Nursery School in Ruddington, said hot meals in winter gave pupils the energy and "positive feeling in their tummies" to learn in the afternoon.

    With plans for the redevelopment of the Sherwood Forest visitor centre and the extension of the Robin Hood railway line, an enterprise zone for Edwinstowe could bring a massive benefit to the area

    Mike Pringle, county councillor for Ollerton, says the area has a history of skills in heavy engineering and clothing manufacture and could move into electronics.

    It's not the first time an enterprise zone plan has been suggested for Thoresby.

    A previous application which included Ollerton, Sutton-in-Ashfield and Mansfield was turned down by George Osborne because he said the business case didn't stack up.

    Now it's got his backing, residents in Edwinstowe say they are supportive of anything that brings in new jobs and new life to the area.

    First this morning, some good news for the former Thoresby Colliery site.

    The Chancellor George Osborne yesterday backed plans for a new enterprise zone at the site and said he will work with local MPs to make it happen.
