    East Midlands MEP Emma McClarkin has said yesterday's terrorist attacks have raised "questions" about the levels of security within the European Union.

    News just in: A key suspect in the attacks in Brussels has been arrested, Belgian media say, quoting judicial sources.

    Najim Laachraoui, thought to be the man on the right in a CCTV image taken before the Zaventem airport attack, was detained in the Anderlecht area.

    More now from the friend of missing man David Dixon.

    Simon Hartley-Jones said he, his partner Charlotte Sutcliffe and their seven-year-old son were due back to their home in Mapperley this weekend to spend Easter here.

    "It’s horrifying. Everyone must be utterly horrified about what’s happened and I’m sure Charlotte would be too but we need to work together as humans and support each other and that’s what we should be doing," he said.

    "He’s a lovely guy - he's an amazing man, who deeply loves his son and we all want to find him."

    Charity worker, Helen Lowenstein, said she's looking forward to getting home to Nottingham later this afternoon after being caught up in the Brussels attacks.

    "It's the last thing you expect to happen - it was scary but we were a lot luckier than many others," she said.

    "I'm still in a bit of shock, looking forward to being able to go home. I can't wait to get home it's been a long couple of days."

    The sister of missing man David Dixon's partner has described their "heartbreaking and worrying" wait for information.

    Marie Sutcliffe said her sister Charlotte was "very distressed" and that "everybody is struggling with communication there".

    She's been driving around hospitals in the hope of finding him.

    A charity worker from Nottingham who was caught up in the twin blasts at Zaventem airport yesterday has described a "chaotic" scene.

    Helen Lowenstein said she was queuing in Starbucks while waiting for a flight to Birmingham Airport when she heard the explosion.

    "It was scary, we didn't know what was happening, there was a lot of chaos," she said.

    "Everyone was pretty scared, everyone was crying."

    Following the attacks in Belgium yesterday, all bmi regional flights to and from East Midlands Airport have been cancelled again today. 

    Security at East Midlands Airport has also been increased as part of a nationwide precautionary measure.

    Friend of missing David Dixon, Simon Hartley-Jones, has appealed for anyone in Belgium who might know his whereabouts to get in touch.

    "[His partner] Charlotte is just desperately looking for David and we need any information you can get," he said.

    "Please just check in hospitals in Brussels, just check that David is not one of your patients, and just let us know."

    David Dixon, a 53-year-old IT programmer, lives in Brussels with his partner Charlotte, from Creswell.

    The couple have a son Henry, who is seven on Sunday, and were due back to their Nottingham home for Easter to see friends.

    Ms Sutcliffe has been trying to find him after he failed to reach his office.

    Friend Simon Hartley-Jones, from Nottingham (pictured) said: "She’s been ringing his mobile phone all day but there’s been no network for part of the time and she just cannot make contact with him."

    First this morning, family and friends of IT programmer David Dixon say they have not heard from him since he left for work on Tuesday morning.

    His partner Charlotte Sutcliffe has been driving from hospital to hospital in Brussels trying to find him.

    We know two Britons were injured in the blasts at the city's airport and a metro station on Tuesday, leaving 34 dead.

    Mr Dixon travelled to work everyday on the city's metro, but has not answered his phone or made contact since the explosions.
