  1. Tom Crawford: Police called to former homepublished at 12:54 British Summer Time 29 March 2016

    The Nottingham Post reported yesterday that Nottingham man Tom Crawford, external said he'd "reclaimed" his former Carlton home by locking himself inside.

    Mr Crawford was evicted from his home last year after a long-running dispute over mortgage payments.

    Police confirmed they were called to Fearn Chase in Carlton at midday on Monday and said they would be interviewing a man "at a later stage".

    The man came out of the house voluntarily at about 19:30, a police spokesperson said.

    Notts County inched another point away from the League Two relegation zone, after a goalless draw with Wycombe at Meadow Lane yesterday.

    Haydn Hollis and Izale McLeod spurned the Magpies best chances, in a much-improved performance from the 4-0 thumping at Portsmouth on Good Friday.

    The result leaves Notts 13 points above the relegation zone and was Mark Cooper's first home match in charge of the club.

    Nottingham City Council has warned that the removal of its controversial anti-begging posters could be vandalism or theft after several were taken down over the weekend.

    Seven children under 11-years-old have been arrested by Nottinghamshire Police for suspected gun crimes since 2013.

    New data obtained by the Press Association shows more than 1,500 children were held across the country with arrests going up by 20% last year.

    A spokesman for the National Police Chiefs' Council said firearms offences in the UK accounted for less than 0.2% of total recorded crime.

    Nottingham City Council, external says it is concerned about "persistent beggars" and that money given directly to people who beg is used to feed harmful addictions.

    Leader of Nottingham City Council, councillor Jon Collins said Nottingham has a good track record on providing support for homeless people.

    He added: "Many of these individuals appear to be ‘rough sleeping’ when they have already been provided with accommodation and use the money to feed their lifestyle."

    Rail passengers affected by the cable theft in Netherfield today have been advised by East Midlands Trains that they are entitled to claim compensation., external

    It said Network Rail were "working hard" to get the line back up and running.

    Tributes have continued to pour in for Nottingham man David Dixon after it was sadly confirmed on Friday he had died in the Brussels attack.

    Mr Dixon, 50, who had lived in Brussels for 10 years, went missing after the third blast at the Metro station last Tuesday.

    Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted, external: "I am deeply saddened to hear David Dixon was killed in the Brussels attacks. My thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family."

    Thousands of people have signed a petition opposing the anti-begging posters in Nottingham because they said they "demonise" homeless people in the city.

    Student Ruth Atkinson, who started the petition, said: "Exploiting stereotypes like this would not be tolerated if discrimination were focused on gender, sexuality, race or religion."

    "These adverts have the very real potential to increase hostility towards people who beg."

    She said many homeless people relied on donations for food and shelter and this campaign would "make their lives harder".

    The city council says there is a small number of persistent problem beggars and the best way to give is through a registered charity.

    The Nottingham Panthers have got through to the play-off finals for the first time in three years after winning 3-1 in Belfast last night.

    It completes a 7-4 aggregate victory over the two quarter-final legs.

    A campaign by Nottingham City Council to stop people donating to beggars is under fire again today. 

    The council says it wants people to give money to homeless charities instead and this weekend it seems one of the posters has gone up on eBay.
