    Residents against plans to build 750 homes in Sutton-in-Ashfield are meeting at 16:00 on Searby Road for their protest.

    The houses have been proposed as part of Ashfield District Council's local plan to provide enough houses for the future.

    Councillor Steve Carroll, who organised the protest, said: "No-ones against them building houses, but we want them to find better sites and want the council to work with residents and listen to them."

    Vicki Wells from the CQC said they had to take action and close St Mary's Medical Centre because there was an "extreme risk to patients". 

    She said the decision was not made lightly and were confident they had taken the right steps.

    Residents say they'll be out in force protesting against plans to build new homes on land prone to flooding in Sutton in Ashfield.

    The district council is considering land near Searby, Newark and Kirkby Folly Roads for 750 properties. 

    But many locals have objected to these plans and have been protesting in the area this afternoon.

    Christopher Parmenter, from the university's School of Pharmacy, said: "It's a truly magical process to observe that message just all of a sudden pops out."

    Janet Williamson, deputy chief inspector of general practice and dentistry in the CQC’s central region, said: "Although patients told us they were treated with dignity and compassion, we also found that care and treatment was not always delivered in line with best practice."

    St Mary's Medical Centre has had its registration suspended until May but the CQC says it will carry out more inspections , externalbefore it's allowed to re-open.
