    The leaking pipe was discovered around 22:40 when the store was closed so fortunately no-one has been hurt.

    John Lewis is one of the Victoria Centre’s iconic stores. It was there when the centre opened in 1972 – though then it was known as Jessops.

    It was the first John Lewis Partnership store to be built as part of a shopping centre, and Jessops took on the corporate name in 2002.

    A spokeswoman for John Lewis said the shopping centres owners, Intu, had been "amazingly supportive".

    She said they were helping out last night and had sent down equipment to help with the clean up today.

    One firefighter told BBC Radio Nottingham: "We were struggling to find the source of the leak.

    The heavy rain also caused a lot of problems yesterday.

    A ceiling came down at the Morrisons supermarket in Netherfield and Newark Orchard School in Balderton, Newark is also closed to pupils today after a part of the ceiling was brought down by the rain.

    Here's what John Lewis had to say about last night's flooding:

    "Our Nottingham branch was seriously flooded last night and will remain closed today as there is no power or lighting. 

    "We are assessing the damage and have already started the clean up operation which will continue as our partners arrive for work this morning."

    Four Nottingham-based athletes are part of the first ever para-canoe GB team for this year's Paralympics.

    Emma Wiggs (pictured), Nick Beighton, Ian Marsden and Rob Oliver are all included.

    This will be Emma's second Paralympics after representing GB at sitting volleyball at London 2012.

    She explained her decision to switch sports four years ago: "I really wanted to experience a sport that's able to take my body and physical limits to new levels."

    There's a massive clear up going on at John Lewis at the Victoria Centre in Nottingham today.

    Firefighters told BBC Radio Nottingham the worst damage was on third floor of the department store where the ceiling "was falling away".
