BBC News OnlineThe “Go Ultra Low” award comes days after work began on the six-mile, £6.1m Eco Expressway – funded by the Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Local Enterprise Partnership.
Image source, Nottingham City CouncilCity councillor Nick McDonald said: “The Eco Expressway will run electric buses up and down so it’s all connected strategically. Collectively, it’ll make a big difference to the way in which the city feels over the next few years.
“We want our whole fleet to be electric – that’s obviously more difficult with some of our larger vehicles such as dustbin lorries and big goods vehicles, but that’s our ambition.”
The council also unveiled proposals in the Old Market Square today for where electric vehicles charging points may be installed, including plans for points at Blenheim Business Park, Wollaton Hall and the National Watersports Centre.

BBC News OnlineNottingham City Council is aiming to turn its cars, vans and lorries into low emission vehicles after the city was awarded “Go Ultra Low” status.
The council has become a “Go Ultra Low” company after pledging to convert a minimum of 5% of its total fleet to ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) by 2020.
Last year Defra announced Nottingham would become one of five “clean air zones” in England by 2020, after it was identified as one of the poorest areas for air quality.
Out of its 450 vehicles, the city council has 12 electric vehicles and has a further four Nissan e-NV200 vans on order.

"The pound has devalued to an extent which would've caused a political crisis 30 years ago when I first came here," he said, adding that the value of the pound has dropped by 40% since 2006.
Turning to the single market, he said he didn't believe there was a mandate for "pulling out of the completely open access that we have at the moment".

BBC Local LiveOver in the House of Commons today, Rushcliffe MP Ken Clarke has been giving his views during a Brexit debate.
The long-standing Conservative Europhile said he was "surprised" to see pronouncements at his party conference "announced as government policy without a word of debate" in the Commons or Cabinet.
"It wasn't a very good start" to the process of negotiating the UK, he added.
He says that in view of Brexit backers' support for free trade, "I don't think there's a mandate for pulling out of the single market".

Attorney General, Jeremy Wright QC MP, referred Maling’s sentence to the Court of Appeal as unduly lenient.

BBC Local LiveA man who killed his girlfriend, who he regularly beat, has had his sentence extended to 15 years.
Andrew Maling, 47, was sentenced to 10 years in June for the manslaughter of Amy Gough in Sandiacre.

Post-mortem examinations revealed there were three litres of blood in her abdomen.

It started three weeks ago on 21 September.
Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue, the Environment Agency and Newark and Sherwood District Council are attending the meeting, according to the Walesby parish clerk.
