    Southwell Minster invited dogs, cats, canaries and even donkeys in for a special blessing service.

    New dean, the Very Rev Nicola Sullivan, was dishing out the blessings to pets and their owners on Sunday.

    Nottinghamshire Police are currently being led by temporary chief constable Sue Fish (pictured) and deputy chief constable Simon Torr. 

    They're hoping to have the new chief constable in place by 1 April.

    Cue The Apprentice theme... Six candidates have been shortlisted for the post of Nottinghamshire's new chief constable.

    Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping, said the job had attracted interest from a host of "experienced and high calibre" officers.

    "We cannot afford to get this wrong and so it is reassuring that we have such a pool of talent from which to make our decision," he said.

    The recruitment campaign follows the departure of Chief Constable Chris Eyre in June who is off to become a chief constable in Cyprus.

    The Circus of Horrors claim it's the first time a body part from a living human has been auctioned.

    Hannibal, 41, said: "After I had the operation to remove my earlobes I always kept my ear to the ground in case an opportunity like this came up and I am happy they have gone to a good home as I was quite attached to them."

    A woman from Kirkby is the proud owner of a pair of ear lobes.

    Yep, you read that right, Sarah Martin paid £460 for the appendages at an auction.

    They belonged to a sword swallower from the Circus of Horrors, who had stretched his lobes to 62mm as part of a number of "body modifications".

    Unfortunately Hannibal Hellmuerto (probably his real name) stretched them too far and had to have them removed...

    The left side of her face was left paralysed because of a condition called Bell's palsy.

    I'm in the Old Market Square to see Nottingham City Council awarded £6.1m for being a Go Ultra Low company. 

    That's a separate £6.1m to the Eco Expressway.

    Along with Bristol, Milton Keynes and London, Nottingham won the funding in January to pay for free parking spaces for plug-in car owners and streetlight charging points.

    Electric car drivers will also be allowed to travel in bus lanes.

    Sherwood Forest was rated “inadequate” last year by the CQC and it is currently awaiting the publication of a report by health inspectors. 

    Mr Herring said the CQC recognised progress during their unannounced inspection in July and added he was hoping to get a draft report today.

    Mr Homa said progress has been made in terms of consistent leadership, after Mr Herring became Sherwood Forest's seventh boss in four years in 2015.

    Mr Homa said he is also looking at how the Medilink bus service can be extended.

    NUH chief executive, Peter Homa, and Sherwood Forest interim head, Peter Herring, gave a joint presentation to councillors on the latest developments on the merger yesterday.

    Mr Homa (pictured) said the additional costs associated with Sherwood Forest's PFI “will be subject to national support”.

    But councillor Colleen Harwood, chair of health scrutiny at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: "Obviously there’s concerns with the PFI, they need to ensure it can be sustainable. 

    "It [the merger] all depends on the PFI and what can be done about it."

  20. PFI deal 'could derail' NHS trust mergerpublished at 10:18 British Summer Time 12 October 2016

    Councillors have expressed concerns that a Private Finance Initiative deal could scupper a merger between two major NHS trusts.

    The proposed merger between Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust has been delayed until next year due to legal work, NUH’s poor A&E performance and financial arrangements.

    Sherwood Forest has a £2.5bn debt from a PFI deal to build King’s Mill Hospital, refurbish Newark Hospital and run some services until 2043.

    Meanwhile, NUH recorded a year-end deficit of £47.2m in 2015 to 2016.
